“Fifty Shades of Grey” star Charlie Hunnam may be thinking of leaving the film after thousands of fans signed a petition to have him taken out of the movie, according to Celeb Dirty Laundry. Of course, it’s just a rumor, but the site said the more than 70,000 signatures on the petition to have the “White Collar” star Matt Bomer replace the “Sons of Anarchy” star might have gotten to the English actor.
When news broke over Labor Day weekend that Hunnam had won the coveted role, fans were generally more than upset. The author of the erotic series of “Fifty Shades” books, E.L. James, had hinted that the actor who would play the role in the film would probably not be the person lovers of the series had envisioned, but there was an outcry of disappointment when the casting was ultimately revealed Sept. 2.
It was even rumored Hunnam needed extra security at the recent “Sons of Anarchy” premiere. While some sources said Universal Studios wanted to protect the actor from Christian Grey-obsessed fans, others said it was to make sure that disappointed, irate fans didn’t throw their books at the star.
Hunnam has never publicly said he was going to quit the film. In fact, during interviews, he said he had great chemistry with his co-star Dakota Johnson, who is set to play Anastasia Steele. “There's just a tangible chemistry between us. It felt exciting and fun and weird and compelling,” he said, according to People.
The actor reportedly wanted to try to do more movies after “Sons of Anarchy” wrapped, which is one reason he took the “Fifty Shades of Grey” role in the first place, Celeb Dirty Laundry wrote. The flick is scheduled to be in theaters next Aug. 1, and rumor has its official trailer premiering around the time of the Super Bowl next Feb. 2.
