The Miami Dolphins have been one of the biggest surprises of the 2013 NFL season. In Week 3, they’ll face their toughest test yet.

Miami will host the defending NFC South champion Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. Both teams are coming off victories.

At 2-0, the Dolphins have upset both of their opponents. They were underdogs when they visited the Cleveland Browns in the opener. In Week 2, they were expected to lose to the Indianapolis Colts. Now, Miami is playing at home for the first time all season, and the betting odds are in their favor. The point spread has them giving the Falcons 2.5 points.

Playing in Miami, however, may not be beneficial to the Dolphins. They, usually, have one of the worst home-field advantages in the league. According to pregame.com, the Dolphins are just 9-32 against the spread when they are favorites at home.

Despite their recent history in Miami, the Dolphins couldn’t be catching the Falcons at a better time. Atlanta has been hit with a rash of injuries, especially on defense. Defensive end Kroy Biermann is out for the season, linebacker Sean Weatherspoon has been lost for at least two months and cornerback Asante Samuel is questionable with a thigh injury. Fullback Bradie Ewing is also done for the year, and Stephen Jackson will miss his first game since signing with Atlanta.

The injuries to their running backs may force the Falcons to rely even more on Matt Ryan and the passing attack. Only DeSean Jackson has more receiving yards than Julio Jones, and he’s played one more game because of the matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday Night Football.

The Dolphins passing attack looks to be much improved through two games this year. In his rookie season, Ryan Tannehill threw more interceptions than touchdowns. In 2013, however, he’s produced an impressive 94.2 passer rating. Free agent acquisition Mike Wallace had his first big game since joining the club, catching nine balls for 115 yards in Week 2.

The start to the 2013 NFL season has not exactly gone as planned for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They are one of the few 0-2 teams and there already appears to be some discontent in the locker-room.

Following their Week 2 loss to the New Orleans Saints, reports surfaced that Darrelle Revis was unhappy with Greg Schiano. According to the cornerback, he harbors no ill will towards the head coach.

"I just wanted to make sure we were on the same page," Revis said. "Those things in the paper do get out, rumors here and there. I just wanted to make sure. I wanted to talk to him personally, to say, 'Hey, just to let you know, I don't know if you know or if you believe it or not,' just to make sure he saw me.”

Tampa Bay traded for Revis in the offseason, hoping to sure up their secondary. The three-time All-Pro has helped limit the opposition’s scoring chances, but it hasn’t done much for their record. On Sunday, Revis and the Buccaneers will be tested against one of the best quarterbacks in the league.

For the past few years, the Patriots have been one of the most explosive offenses in football. That hasn’t been the case this year, after the team lost almost all of their offensive weapons from season ago. Wes Welker, Aaron Hernandez and Brandon Lloyd are all gone from a team that led the NFL in points and yards per game. Rob Gronkowski is still battling an injury and questionable for the game, while newly acquired Danny Amendola won’t return for a few weeks.

As a result, New England has scored just 36 points in two games. Julian Edelman is a wide receiver with just 714 receiving yards in four previous seasons. Now, Brady has been forced to make him his No.1 target.

The Buccaneers will have All-Pro Dashon Goldson available. The safety was suspended for an illegal hit on Darren Sproles, but the suspension was overturned.

On offense is where Tampa has the bulk of its issues. Josh Freeman seems to have reverted back to his 2011 form when he threw 22 interceptions. His 63.0 passer rating is the worst in the NFC, and his job could be in jeopardy to rookie Mike Glennon if he doesn’t improve soon.

The betting odds for the Patriots first two games had the reigning AFC East champs favored by double-digits. After not coming close to covering the line in either contest, the point spread has New England as seven-point favorites in this one.

The Manning brothers are set to meet for the third time in their NFL careers. The Denver Broncos will visit the New York Giants in Week 2 of the 2013 season.

The first two matchups did not go in Eli’s favor. Peyton and the Indianapolis Colts beat the Giants in their only meeting since his brother entered the league. Now, Eli and New York will host Peyton as a member of the defending AFC West champs.

No one looked better in their season debut than Peyton Manning. The 2012 MVP runner-up threw seven touchdowns against the defending champion Baltimore Ravens in the season opener. He finished the game with 462 passing yards on 42 attempts, and a near-perfect 141.1 quarterback rating. Three different receivers caught two touchdown passes, including Wes Welker who had nine receptions in his first regular season game as a Bronco.

Eli Manning wasn’t nearly as good in Week 1. While he did throw for two scores and only his brother had more passing yards in the opening weekend, three picks from Giants quarterback played a major role in their loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Overall, New York committed six turnovers on the night.

Denver began the season as the favorites to win the Super Bowl, and those odds only got better after they looked so good in game No.1. Their stellar performance and the Giants lackluster play has made the Broncos decided favorites on the road. They are giving New York 3.5 points at MetLife Stadium.

Prediction: It would be easy to overreact after Week 1. The Broncos offense looked unstoppable, while the Giants looked like they could be heading for a last place finish. However, New York will likely improve upon last week’s debacle. They should cut down on their turnovers and Peyton won’t throw for seven more scores. New York has a habit of playing better against the top competition. They have a good chance to pull off the upset.

Week 1 was a missed opportunity for both the Buffalo Bills and Carolina Panthers. On Sunday, both teams will look to make up for their blown chance as they face each other.

The Bills were just seconds away from upsetting the New England Patriots in their opener. EJ Manuel threw for two scores and no interceptions in his debut, while completing 67 percent of his passes. Buffalo didn’t let Tom Brady and the Patriots offense do much, allowing just six points in the second half. Up one point in the finals seconds, the Bills allowed a field goal that sealed their fate. Despite having a fourth-quarter lead at home, they were unable to make enough plays at the end and put more points on the board.

Like the Bills, the Panthers were at home, facing the second favorite to represent their conference in the Super Bowl. Carolina had a 7-6 advantage over the Seattle Seahawks heading into the fourth quarter. Cam Newton and the rest of the offense, though, could barely move the ball against the NFL’s best defense in 2012. They were able to muster just 259 yards of total offense and couldn’t come back from a Russell Wilson touchdown pass with just over 10 minutes to play.

Despite both teams playing close games against tough competition, the Bills have been made underdogs at home. They are getting 3.5 points, according to most Las Vegas casinos. The over/under has been set at 43.5 points.

Carolina might be ready to have a bounce-back performance. Buffalo’s secondary began the 2013 season banged up without cornerback Stephen Gilmore and safety Jairus Byrd. Against the Patriots cornerback Ron Brooks broke his foot. Newton should play much better after facing, perhaps, the best secondary in football. The Panthers had a strong rushing attack on in Week 1, averaging 5.2 yards per carry.

For the fourth consecutive year, the Green Bay Packers and Kansas City Chiefs will close out the preseason against each other. Both teams enter the game at 1-2 in three exhibition games.

The biggest reason for the Packers poor record may be the lack of time Aaron Rodgers has spent on the field. Head coach Mike McCarthy has been very careful with his star quarterback, limiting his snaps to avoid injury. He threw a preseason-high 12 passes in the second exhibition game, completing 10 of them. In the third game, which usually sees the starters play into the second half, the former MVP was taken out after just one series.

With just one more tune-up before the start of the regular season, Rodgers may not until the opener. Green Bay, though, isn’t worried that their best player won’t be prepared to play meaningful games.

“I’d say Aaron’s in his game ready shape. He’s been very sharp,” McCarthy said. “I feel very confident that Aaron’s ready to go.”

Rodgers spending the majority of the time on the bench has given Vince Young a chance to prove he can still contribute. After sitting out 2012, Young appears to have earned a spot on the roster as the Packers No.2 quarterback. He beat out Graham Harrell, who was released, following the third preseason game. Las week, he had a lot of success against the Seattle Seahawks, who had the top defensive unit in 2012. He completed six of his seven passes and ran three times for 39 yards.

McCarthy has stated that B.J. Coleman is still in the running to surpass Young. That seems unlikely, though, unless things change drastically against the Chiefs.

The Chiefs starters aren’t expected to play much, if at all, either. They are coming off their first win of the preseason, in which the starters played the bulk of the minutes. In his first extended action with Kansas City, Alex Smith played much like he did in the last two years with the San Francisco 49ers. He was very efficient, completing 17 of 24 passes for 158 yards and a touchdown.

Kansas City is favored by four points in their preseason finale on Thursday night. Even in their two losses, they kept the game within one score.

The Chicago Bears and Oakland Raiders will meet on Friday night in Week Three of the 2013 NFL preseason. Both teams enter the contest at 1-1, and will give their starters the opportunity to play most of the way.

The game won’t affect the regular season standings, but it might have a lot more importance for the Raiders than it does for the Bears. Chicago is coming off a 10-6 2012 season that saw them barely miss the playoffs. Oakland won four games, missing the postseason for the 10th consecutive year and is still trying to see what their team will look like when games start to matter in two weeks.

Oakland’s quarterback competition may be coming to an end, shortly. Matt Flynn has had an unofficial hold on the job since the start of training camp, and his first two performances have proven that he should lead the Raiders in 2013. Most recently, Flynn completed 12 of 16 passes, including one for a touchdown, against the New Orleans Saints. He was sacked five times, but he still outshined Terrelle Pryor, who went one-for-five with just nine yards through the air.

Flynn already doesn’t have a lot of weapons with no established, top receivers, and a starting running back in Darren McFadden that can’t stay healthy. Now, the quarterback will have less protection. Starting left tackle Jared Veldheer has torn triceps and will miss a good portion of the season. Alex Barron has taken over the role, but he struggled against the Saints in his time as Veldheer’s replacement.

Chicago doesn’t have to worry about looking for their starting quarterback. Jay Cutler threw five passes against the San Diego Chargers last week, and should play into the third quarter on Friday night.

The player the Bears may have to watch the most is Martellus Bennett. The tight end signed with the team in the offseason and could be a big target for Cutler. Through two games, though, Bennett hasn’t caught one pass. However, the five-year veteran isn’t worried about his lack of production.

"In the preseason, those catches don't get you any extra checks," Bennett said, according to ESPN Chicago. "In the regular season, those catches do. We'll take it up a notch. We're not even showing our full hand right now. It's a poker game right now. We have the advantage not showing our hand so nobody knows what our offense is. We are just running basic plays."

Not only are the Bears expected to win, but only the Denver Broncos are bigger favorites this week. They are giving the Raiders four points at the Oakland Coliseum.
