getdiscountz.blogspot.com ® Alabama Vs. Oklahoma Football: Early Prediction, Betting Odds, And Preview For Sugar Bowl

Two weeks ago, No.3 Alabama appeared poised to play for national title for a third straight year. Instead, the defending champs will have to settle for facing No.11 Oklahoma in the 2014 Sugar Bowl.

The Crimson Tide had been the best team in college football all year, winning 11 straight as they entered their contest with Auburn on Nov. 30. However, four missed field goals and 109-yard touchdown return by the Tigers’ Chris Davis ended Alabama’s chances of a three-peat.

“Every bowl game is an opportunity for your team to prove who they are,” Alabama coach Nick Saban said via the Montgomery Advertiser. “You want to play for your seniors. They have had a great career. There’s some disappointment in how we finished the season (with the Iron Bowl loss), but we are not disappointed in playing the Sugar Bowl and a great team. Hopefully, we can prove what kind of team we are.”

Oklahoma’s road to the Sugar Bowl was quite different. While Alabama was defeated and relegated to the Sugar Bowl, the Sooners made a final push to reach the bowl game. On Saturday, they upset then-No.6 Oklahoma State in their biggest victory of the 2013 season. The win prevented the Cowboys from clinching the Big 12 title.

Since Alabama has been much more dominant this season, they enter the game as heavy favorites. According to the betting line at most Las Vegas casinos, Oklahoma is a 15-point underdog. Only Central Florida is getting more points out of any team in a BCS bowl. Both teams are 7-5 against the point spread.

While Alabama hasn’t had much trouble scoring, it’s their defense that kept them at the center of the national championship picture for almost the whole year. Only Florida State gives up less than their 11.3 points allowed per game. In nine of their 12 games, they’ve surrendered 10 points or less, including three shutouts.

It’s not clear which quarterback will get the start and go up against the Crimson Tide defense. Blake Bell helped propel the Sooners to their win over Oklahoma State, as he replaced the injured Trevor Knight. Bell has gotten the majority of time under center, throwing for 1,648 yards, 12 touchdowns and five interceptions. However, Knight got the call in the last game of the season, but was forced to leave the contest when he separated his non-throwing shoulder. Bell started the game as the third option, but eventually replaced backup Kendal Thompson.

"I was just thinking that whenever I got my opportunity, I wanted to do the best I could with Trevor going down and Kendal coming in," Bell said, who completed 10 of 16 passes for 140 yards. "Once I got into the rhythm of the play, I felt like everything was clicking."

Alabama is led by the most consistnet college quarterback in recent years. AJ McCaron is in his this straight season as the team’s starter. He likely won’t win the Heisman Trophy this year, but he’s expected to be a finalist with 26 touchdowns passes and five interceptions.

In recent seasons, the SEC has been dominant against Big 12 teams in bowl games. The Cotton Bowl, which pits the two conferences against each other, has seen the SEC school win in nine of the last 10 years. The only Big 12 team to emerge victorious in that time, Missouri, will represent the SEC in 2014 matchup.

getdiscountz.blogspot.com ® Michigan - Ohio State 2013: Prediction, Betting Odds, And Preview For Big Ten Football

The latest installment of one of college football’s most storied rivalries kicks-off Saturday as the No. 3 Ohio State Buckeyes head north to face Michigan at Michigan Stadium.

The schools have split the last two games, with Ohio State winning last year’s contest 26-21. However, Michigan holds the all-time record at 58-45-6.

Winners of 23 straight dating back to last season, the Buckeyes can increase their national title hopes with a huge victory over the Wolverines, but likely need a Florida State loss in order to move up the BCS standings.

After starting the season 5-0, Michigan has gone 2-4 in its last six, though three of losses were by four points or less. Despite forcing four turnovers, the Wolverines coughed up a 14-point lead and notched a measly 158 total offensive yards in a 24-21 loss to Iowa last week.

Failing to capitalize on opponents’ mistakes and a struggling offense wont’ cut it against the nation’s eighth ranked defense, and third highest scoring offense led by quarterback Braxton Miller.

Miller tossed two touchdowns and ran for two more in the Buckeyes 42-14 rout of Indiana last week, and in the face of three turnovers the defense, led by junior linebacker Ryan Shazier, gave up 3.1 yards per carry.

The win clinched Ohio State’s berth in the Big Ten Championship, and it marked the sixth straight 100-yard rushing game for senior Carlos Hyde. At a punishing 6-foot and 242 lbs., Hyde’s gained 1,064 yards and 13 touchdowns this season.

The Wolverines will counter with quarterback Devin Gardner and running back Fitzgerald Toussaint, who’ve accounted for 28 of the school’s 41 offensive touchdowns.

However since suffering a head injury against Nebraska, Toussaint sat out the Northwestern victory, and only rushed six times for 12 yards against Iowa. Instead the rushing load could rest on true freshman Derrick Green on Senior Day. As the primary running back Green’s gained 102 yards on 28 attempts in the last two games.

The Wolverines defense has had its fair share of struggles this year, even with nine total interceptions by defensive backs Raymon Taylor and Blake Countess, and 8.5 sacks from defensive end Frank Clark and linebacker Cameron Gordon.

Michigan is fourth against the run, but ninth in passing defense in the Big Ten.

The Texas Longhorns are still alive in the Big-12 title race, and welcome in-state rival Texas Tech to Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium on Thursday night.

Texas needs to win out over the Red Raiders and next week against Baylor, and need Oklahoma State to fall in two weeks to Oklahoma for even an outside chance at their first Big-12 title since 2009. A conference title might be the only way Mack Brown retains his job as Texas head coach.

The Longhorns rode a six-game win streak through their conference schedule and hold their destiny in their hands despite a nasty 49-17 blowout loss to Oklahoma State two weeks ago.

Tech is hoping to snap a four-game losing streak, during which they’ve fallen by an average of 19.5 points, including a 29-point loss to Baylor.

Texas holds the all-time record by a wide margin, 47-15, including the last four. The Red Raiders have only won twice since 2002.

Held to a season-low 13 points and three interceptions from quarterback Case McCoy against Oklahoma State, the Longhorns may have a difficult time keeping up with Tech’s No. 1 ranked passing offense, averaging 400.2 yards and 37.5 points per game.

Since taking over as the full-time starter, McCoy’s posted three multi-interception games in the last four, but up until the Cowboys loss it didn’t cost the Longhorns.

Junior running back Malcolm Brown moved up the depth chart as Texas’s No. 1 running back after Johnathan Gray went down with a right Achilles injury, and has scored eight of his nine touchdowns in the last four games.

Brown and the Longhorns 192.7 rushing yards per game could be the key to keeping the Red Raiders offense off the field.

Tech and freshman quarterback Baker Mayfield kept up with 20 quick points against Baylor, but were outscored 42-14 over the next three quarters and were outgained 645 to 458 yards.

Big-12 leading receiver Jace Amaro has 92 receptions for 1,157 yards and six touchdowns, and represents the biggest threat to a Longhorns pass defense ranked second in the conference.

getdiscountz.blogspot.com ® USC Vs. Colorado: Prediction, Betting Odds, And Preview For Pac-12 Football Game

Rising to the Top 25 for the first time in nearly two months, the streaking No. 23 USC Trojans hit the road and take on the Colorado Buffaloes on Saturday night at Folsom Field.

The Trojans snuffed out No. 5 Stanford last week 20-17, forcing three turnovers and generating momentum for interim coach Ed Orgeron to retain the job full-time. Should USC win its final two games, they’ll likely lock down a spot in the Pac-12 championship.

Tied for last place in the Pac-12 South division, 4-6 Colorado ended its second three-game winning streak of the season with a 41-24 victory over 1-10 Cal last week. The Buffaloes field the second worst offense and defense in the conference, and quarterbacks Sefo Liufau and Connor Wood have tossed a combined 13 interceptions to 16 touchdowns.

Under Orgeron USC has gone 5-1, and is currently riding a four-game win streak. During the previously unimaginable run, the Trojans have outscored opponents 132-62, and have held opposing offenses to 4.2 yards per rush.

Sophomore quarterback Cody Kessler has looked far more comfortable in the pocket, with five touchdown passes to one interception in the last four games. Kessler also connected on over 80 percent of his passes on the road against Oregon State and Cal.

Backing up Kessler is the Pac-12’s third best pass defense allowing 217.5 yards per game with 14 interceptions on the season. Defensive backs Dion Bailey and Su’a Cravens have each tallied four picks this season

That pesky group will try to contain Colorado’s lone offensive weapon, receiver Paul Richardson. The junior is responsible for 71 receptions for 1,201 yards and nine touchdowns, ranking second in the Pac-12.

The Trojans might be able to kick start their running game. Sophomore Javorius Allen was held to 26 yards by Stanford after posting back-to-back 100-yard games. Allen took more snaps while top rusher Tre Madden recuperated from a hamstring injury.

Madden has sat out two games after suffering the injury against Notre Dame, and has totaled 71 yards on 19 attempts in three games since.

Kessler will also have to find a way to better utilize receiver Marqise Lee, who’s notched seven catches for 106 yards in the last two games.

USC will also have to fend off Buffaloes linebacker Addison Gillam and defensive end Chidera Uzo-Diribe, a pair that’s totaled seven of the team’s 14 sacks.

getdiscountz.blogspot.com ® Falcons - Panthers: Live Stream Details, TV Network, Betting Odds, And Prediction

Before the season began it appeared the Carolina Panthers and Atlanta Falcons were on opposite trajectories.

With Matt Ryan under center and Julio Jones poised to become one of the league’s elite receivers, Atlanta was supposed to set the league on fire and make another run to the NFC title game. Carolina’s Cam Newton and head coach Ron Rivera were both under fire, and 2013 was seen as the final year before serious changes came down.

Riding a three-game winning streak, the Panthers are now 4-3 and vying for a wild card spot entering the second half of the season. While injuries to Jones, fellow receiver Roddy White, and running back Steven Jackson have limited the Falcons offense, and one of the NFL’s oldest defenses is ranked 21st against the pass and rush.

The 2-5 Falcons will try to turn the season around and win their first road game against Carolina on Sunday afternoon at Bank of America Stadium.

Atlanta’s lost each game by an average of 6.6 points, with all of the pressure placed on Ryan to win games with his arm thanks to a last ranked rushing attack. Last week against Arizona, the sixth-year passer looked ready to drag the Falcons out of 27-6 hole in the fourth quarter after completing a four-yard touchdown pass to receiver Drew Davis, but threw an interception on the next possession and Atlanta eventually fell 27-13.

Jones and White went down after the two-point loss tot he New York Jets in Week Five, and Davis along with Harry Douglas have responded well to their increase in playing time. Douglas has now posted two straight 100-yard games, including a 12-catch 121-yard game in the Arizona loss, and second-year Davis tallied five receptions for 77 yards and the score.

Jackson returned and gained six yards on 11 carries, and his main sub Jacquizz Rodgers managed eight yards. Rodgers has been far more effective catching passes out of the backfield, totaling 27 receptions for 166 yards and two touchdowns compared to 3.2 yards a carry.

Newton and the Panthers offense have found their groove over the last five games, going 4-1 in that stretch and averaging 28 points and 345.6 total offensive yards.

During the streak, Newton’s thrown six touchdowns with no interceptions, and rushed for another 106 yards and two touchdowns. Running backs D’Angelo Williams and Mike Tolbert have also split carries and helped the Panthers post the NFL’s eighth best rushing.

In terms of injuries, White remains questionable with hamstring and ankle snags, and could miss his fourth straight game, though he was a limited participant in Friday’s practice session. Team sack leader Osi Umenyiora is also questionable due to a bad knee, and second-string linebacker Stephen Nicholas has been ruled out with a thigh injury.

Carolina’s only concern comes on the defensive end with starting weakside linebacker Chase Blackburn listed as questionable with a foot injury. Should he sit out, defensive ends Greg Hardy and Charles Johnson, along with top linebacker Luke Kuechly, could be asked to shoulder more of the Panthers second ranked rush defense.

Betting Odds: Carolina is favored by 7.5 points

getdiscountz.blogspot.com ® Texas Tech Vs. Oklahoma State 2013: TV Channel, Betting Odds, And Prediction For Big 12 Game

After suffering their first loss of the season, freshman Davis Webb and the No. 15 Texas Tech Red Raiders host the No. 18 Oklahoma State Cowboys on Saturday night at Jones AT&T Stadium.

Both are two of the most balanced teams in the Big-12. Tech is second in points scored per game (39.8) and fourth in total defense. The Cowboys are third in points scored (38.9) and allowed (19.6). OSU holds an edge upfront, ranking first against the run (122.7).

Ranking 98th in the country, the Red Raiders don’t have much of a rushing game, with no running back gaining 60 or more yards in the last two weeks, according to the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal. In last week’s 38-30 loss to Oklahoma, rushers DeAndre Washington and Kenny Williams combined for 80 yards and one touchdown on 17 carries.

Instead quarterback Webb has fired off 1,812 yards and 13 TDs since taking over for fellow freshman Baker Mayfield, who injured his right knee in the Red Raiders win over Kansas. Webb picked up right where Mayfield left off, and Tech has the second best passing game in the country.

Webb will meet a Cowboys pass defense championed by senior defensive backs Justin Gilbert and Daytawion Lowe. Gilbert is first in the Big-12 with four interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown, and Lowe has two picks of his own.

OSU’s Desmond Roland earned conference player of the week honors for his 219 yards and four touchdowns in last week’s 58-27 blowout over Iowa State. The performance moved the junior into second in the Big-12 with six rushing scores.

He’ll face a Tech rushing defense that’s fourth in the conference allowing 3.7 yards per carry. Senior linebacker Will Smith is first on the team with 56 total tackles and 4.0 sacks, and senior d-lineman Kerry Hyder has recorded 10 tackles for a loss of 32 yards.

Both could also create trouble for Cowboys quarterback J.W. Walsh. The sophomore’s thrown for 1,324 yards and nine touchdowns to five picks. His main targets include Josh Stewart (34 catches, 483 yards, 2 TDs) and Tracy Moore (26 catches, 332 yards, 1 TD).

The Red Raiders have lost four straight to OSU, and five of the last six dating back to 2007. But Tech owns the all-time mark at 21-16-3.

Auburn - Arkansas 2013: TV Channel, Betting Odds, And Prediction For SEC Football Game getdiscountz.blogspot.com

getdiscountz.blogspot.com ® Auburn - Arkansas 2013: TV Channel, Betting Odds, And Prediction For SEC Football Game

Smack in the middle of one of the biggest turnarounds in college football this year, the No. 8 Auburn Tigers meet the struggling Arkansas Razorbacks on Saturday night at Razorback Stadium.

At this time last year the Tigers were 1-7, but they’ve flipped that record under first year head coach Gus Malzahn with impressive victories over ranked Texas A&M and Ole Miss, and could head back to a BCS bowl game.

The Tigers will first have to overcome an Arkansas squad that’s won four of the last five meetings. Auburn barely owns the all-time record at 11-10-1.

Ranked last in scoring offense and 12th in defense in the SEC, Arkansas hasn’t had such good fortune with their first-year head coach Bret Bielema. The Razorbacks have dropped five straight, most coming against the conference’s top teams, including Oct. 19’s 52-0 rout at the hands of Alabama. In consecutive weeks they faced A&M, Florida, South Carolina, and the Tide and were outscored 179-50.

The Razorbacks could end the streak against an Auburn squad unsure if top quarterback Nick Marshall will even play. Marshall suffered a shoulder injury in last week’s 45-10 victory over Florida Atlanta, and is a game-time decision, according to AL.com.

Marshall has completed 83 of his 144 pass attempts for 1,148 yards and six touchdowns to four picks this season, and is a certifiable threat on the ground with 461 rushing yards and five touchdowns. If he can’t go freshman Jeremy Johnson, more pocket passer than rush specialist, is expected to start.

Johnson could be asked to be more of a game manager since the Tigers success has come mostly from their fifth ranked rushing attack. Joining Marshall is the two-head monster of Tre Mason and Cameron Artis-Payne. Mason is fifth in the SEC with 753 yards and nine scores, and Artis-Payne is 14th at 7.1 yards per carry for five touchdowns.

Arkansas has their own pair of dominant backs in Alex Collins and Jonathan Williams, accounting for 1,409 rushing yards and eight touchdowns. The freshman Collins is third in the SEC in rushing, making up for quarterback Brandon Allen’s seven interceptions.

Half of Allen’s eight touchdown passes have gone to top receiver Javontee Herndon, who’s totaled 20 receptions for 330 yards. Hunter Henry is right behind him with 17 catches for 318 yards and one score.

Saturday’s also highlighted by two of the best defensive ends in the SEC. Arkansas senior Chris Smith has anchored the frontline with 6.0 sacks, and Tigers senior Dee Ford also has six takedowns, with both tied for fourth in the conference.

Despite the losses, Bielema and his squad still have their eyes on the postseason.

"These next four remaining games — the games that we're locked in to play — they're going to obviously decide if we have a chance to play in the postseason," Bielema said to AL.com. "But more importantly, give us a good indicator as coaches what we have and what we need to recruit and what we need to have for the future."

getdiscountz.blogspot.com ® Arsenal - Borussia Dortmund: Preview, Betting Odds, News And Prediction For 2013 Champions League Match

Arsenal can move to within touching distance of a place in the Champions League last 16 with a win over Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday, but will have to do so without a man who has been an unsung star of their fine early season form, Mathieu Flamini. Arsene Wenger has confirmed that the midfielder will miss the match at the Emirates after suffering a concussion in Saturday’s 4-1 victory over Norwich City.

Record signing Mesut Ozil has grabbed the headlines, alongside the transformed Aaron Ramsey, as the Arsenal have taken top spot in the Premier League and taken maximum points from their first two games in what is undeniably the toughest Champions League group. But while the glittering attacking play of the kind that produced a stunning goal for Jack Wilshere at the weekend has been widely hailed, Flamini’s influence has been equally pivotal.

Little was said, even less of it positive, when Flamini’s return to the club he walked out on to join Milan in 2008 was confirmed in August. At the time -- before Ozil’s arrival -- it was seen as Arsenal taking another cheap option in simply snapping up a former player on a free transfer who had been already training with the club. It followed similar moves in recent years for Thierry Henry, Sol Campbell and Jens Lehman.

Instead, thus far, Flamini has made a real contribution on his return. Just how influential he’s been perhaps doesn’t reflect well on Wenger. Indeed, since the 29-year-old left, Arsenal failed to find another midfielder who, like Flamini, was prepared to focus on the less attractive side of the game -- maintaining positional discipline and allowing other players to go forward while also putting in a robust challenge where necessary. His defensive stats do not make overwhelming reading -- although his passing success rate is among the highest in Europe -- but it is the influence he has on his teammates that is equally pivotal.

Flamini’s combativeness has inspired those around him to work similarly hard without the ball. Arsenal’s pressing this season has improved as a result. While he may often not be noticed when on the pitch, he certainly should have been when he was taken off after 37 minutes on Saturday. Almost from the moment Flamini was substituted, Norwich came back into the game, with the visitors having far more space in midfield. And on another day, it could have proved costly with Norwich going two goals behind against the run of play before some scintillating attacking quality by Arsenal gave a scoreline that failed to reflect, as Wenger admitted, the closeness of the contest.

It may well be a different story against last season’s Champions League finalists. Dortmund’s success over the years has been built on the platform provided by their pressing off the ball. Arsenal will now have to match that work rate in Flamini’s absence. Ramsey and Mikel Arteta are likely to be given the central midfield berths and at least one, usually Arteta, will have to be disciplined at all times to limit Dortmund’s lighting breaks when they win the ball back.

While Jurgen Klopp’s side lost young star Mario Gotze in the close season, their threat on the counter attack has in some ways been enhanced with the introduction of the frighteningly fast Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The club’s squad looks stronger this campaign and there is reason to believe that, unlike the past two seasons, they can compete in both Europe and their domestic league this time around. Like Arsenal, Dortmund have dropped just five points in the league, but an opening defeat to Napoli in the Champions League means they will be desperate to take something away from the Emirates.

The absence of Flamini could well help the dynamic Germans achieve it and emerge with a draw that ultimately is unlikely to leave either side overly disappointed.

Prediction: Arsenal 2-2 Borussia Dortmund

Betting Odds: Arsenal are 13/10 favorites to get the win at home. A draw is priced at 13/5, with a victory for Borussia Dortmund available at 11/5.

getdiscountz.blogspot.com ® San Francisco 49ers Vs. Arizona Cardinals: Prediction, Betting Odds, Preview, TV Channel, Where To Watch Online Stream, And Team News For Sunday's NFL Game

Quietly the Arizona Cardinals are 3-2 after winning two straight, but their most difficult task yet comes against the San Francisco 49ers in Week Six on Sunday.

Arizona has gone 3-9 against the 49ers since 2008, and haven’t won a game at Candlestick Park since then either. They’ll have a chance to snap that streak, and even take over second place in the NFC West with a win.

The Niners have won two straight as well, overthrowing Houston 34-3 last week, and St. Louis the week before that. The Texans victory was the best performance for the San Francisco defense this season, forcing four turnovers including Tramaine Brock’s 18-yard interception return that opened the game.

Head coach Jim Harbaugh had the running game do the heavy lifting the rest of the way. Frank Gore and Anthony Dixon each scored a touchdown, while quarterback Colin Kaepernick only threw 15 times, completing six passes for 113 yards and and a touchdown to tight end Vernon Davis.

The Cardinals have their defense to thank for last week’s 22-6 win over Carolina. They also generated four turnovers with three interceptions, and sacked quarterback Cam Newton seven times while forcing a safety in the third quarter.

Quarterback Carson Palmer struggled with three interceptions, but hit tight end Jim Dray for a seven-yard touchdown late in the fourth quarter that squelched any chance of a Panthers comeback.

Michael Floyd made an Arizona-high five catches for 61 yards, and running back Rashard Mendenhall gained his second touchdown of the season.

Ranked 23rd in the leaue with 81 rushing yards a game, the Cardinals might be able to improve the ground attack against a banged up 49ers frontline. Defensive tackle Ray McDonald is questionable with a biceps injury, and Justin Smith is also questionable with a bum shoulder.

However the 49ers could welcome back All-Pro linebacker Patrick Willis, who suffered an injured groin against Indianapolis two weeks ago and missed last week’s win over Houston.

"Last week, I really tried to push it to go and it just wasn't all the way there," Willis said after practice on Wednesday to the San Jose Mercury News. "What I didn't want to do was lie to myself and teammates and not give all of myself. Me and the training staff felt it was the right approach.

"Yesterday it was better. I'm still feeling it a little bit but it's certainly a lot better than it was."

Coverage of the game starts at 4:25 p.m. ET and will be broadcast by FOX, or watch a live online stream by purchasing NFL Game Access here.

Perhaps no veteran quarterback in the NFL needs a victory like Houston Texan Matt Schaub. The 32-year-old has led the Texans to three straight losses, throwing six of his nine interceptions on the season during the nasty stretch, including four pick-sixes.

Schaub and the Texans can get their season back on track on Sunday against the St. Louis Rams at Reliant Stadium.

The Rams ended their own three-game losing streak with a gimme 34-20 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars last week. Sam Bradford tossed three touchdowns, two of which went to receiver Austin Pettis, and running back Zac Stacy emerged as a viable threat in what has been an otherwise underwhelming St. Louis backfield.

Stacy gained 78 rushing yards, and will reportedly start again versus Houston, who’s ranked near the bottom in the NFL against the run.

The Texans have scored in the single digits in two of their last three games, including last week’s 34-3 debacle against San Francisco. Schaub had three picks, but running back Arian Foster gained 98 yards, nearly tallying 100-plus for the second straight week.

Bradford could have a difficult time against the Texans top ranked secondary, and pass rushers Brian Cushing, J.J. Watt, and Whitney Mercilus. According to the Houston Chronicle, no opposing quarterback has thrown for more than 200 yards against the Texans this season.

The Rams have several injuries up and down their defense, a sign Houston could turn things around. Defensive end Williams Hayes is questionable with a knee injury, and top cornerback Cortland Finnegan is doubtful due to a hamstring strain. However defensive tackle Matt Contrath was updated to probable from questionable earlier this week.

The Texans have also said top receiver Andre Johnson is a game-time decision after playing through a shin injury. Head coach Gary Kubiak praised Johnson’s mettle and dedication.

"You know if he can get there, he’s going to get there for you, as a coach and as a teammate," Kubiak said to the team’s official website. "I know his leg has not felt good. Expect video arcade numbers as Drew Brees and Tom Brady go throw-for-throw on Sunday afternoon at Gillette Stadium.

Second in yards and touchdowns, Brees and his New Orleans Saints have lit up opposing defenses for 327.2 passing yards a game, and at 5-0 are one of three undefeated teams left in the NFL. While breaking in new receivers, Brady is 17th in the league in passing yards, (1,211), but he still has the Patriots sporting a 4-1 record.

Among active quarterbacks, Brees and Brady are No. 2 and 3, respectively, in career passing yardage. Brady holds the edge in career passing touchdowns, 341 to 336, but Brees holds the 65.7 career completion percentage advantage.

All those numbers translate into a nightmare for New Orleans defensive coordinator Rob Ryan and his Patriots counterpart Matt Patricia. Both have dragged their secondarys from near the bottom of the NFL last year to a respectable level in the middle. The Saints have notched seven picks to New England’s six, but the Patriots have surrendered four passing touchdowns to New Orleans six.

Now enjoying his first full season in New England, corner Aqib Talib is tied for the NFL lead with four picks this season, and has the Patriots ranked 14th overall against the pass.

The Patriots were hoping Rob Gronkowski would make his return this week from back and forearm surgeries, but he still hasn’t been cleared by doctors to play on Sunday. There are still plenty of questions surrounding the hulking 6-foot-6 tight end who’s totaled 38 touchdowns in three pro seasons. He’s even participated in practices and been tackled, but there is no clear indication as to when he will take the field again.

With Gronkowski out, and a number of roster moves and non-moves made by New England this offseason, Brady’s made fifth-year receiver Julian Edelman his top target for 36 receptions, 354 yards, and two scores. Rookies Aaron Dobson and Kenbrell Thompkins have shown flashes of talent on the field, but are still developing a rhythm with Brady.

On the flipside, Brees’s top target is tight end Jimmy Graham, who currently leads the NFL with 593 receiving yards and is second with six touchdowns. The 26-year-old former Miami star has two 10-reception games, and has caught for at least 100 yards in four straight.

One outright edge New England holds is on the ground. LeGarrette Blount is averaging 4.5 yards per carry and has tallied the Patriots only rushing score of the season. The Saints counter with speedy Darren Sproles and between-the-tackles rusher Pierre Thomas, but both have proven more effective in the passing game compared to New Orleans 26th ranked rushing offense.

Coverage of the game starts at 4:25 p.m. ET and will be broadcast by FOX, or watch a live online stream by purchasing NFL Game Access here.

At the end of the season, the New York Jets could be looking at last week’s win as a turning point in their season. After an upset victory on Monday Night Football, the Jets will now look to take care of business against an winless team.

In Week Five, New York went into Atlanta as double-digit underdogs and beat the Falcons. In Week Six, they 3-2 Jets host the Pittsburgh Steelers, who come into the contest at 0-4.

Geno Smith had the best performance of his rookie season in the most recent victory. He threw a career-high three touchdowns and didn’t throw an interception for the first time. Perhaps most impressive was the drive that he engineered that the end of the fourth quarter. With the ball at the 20-yard line and his team trailing 28-27 with 1:54 remaining, the quarterback led the Jets 55 yards into field goal range.

"I needed to adjust my mentality coming into this game," Smith said, who led the AFC in turnovers prior to the game. "I made it my duty to not put us in harm's way, to not have stupid penalties, turnovers, anything that can jeopardize this team."

Santonio Holmes sat out with a hamstring injury, and it’s unknown when he’ll return. Smith completed 16 of 20 pass attempts, despite missing his top target. It was his first game since finding out that Mark Sanchez had been officially lost for the season because of shoulder surgery.

“It was a tremendous game for him,” said head coach Rex Ryan. “The 80% completion rate, extremely accurate with the ball, made some great decisions. I thought he ran hard. I thought it was a great game on his part.”

Ben Roethlisberger has been a perennial winner since he was drafted in 2004, but the rookie Smith is having more success than him in 2013. In fact, few other quarterbacks have had the disappointing season that Roethlisberger is enduring. He leads an offense that ranks 29th in the NFL. Only the Giants, Buccaneers and Jaguars, who are all winless, have had a more difficult time scoring.

The quarterback hasn’t gotten much help, though, playing behind a struggling offensive line. He’s fifth in the league in sacks, even though the Steelers are one of a few teams that had had their by weeks. According to cornerback Ryan Clark, the veteran may be trying to do too much.

“You to have to protect Ben against Ben," Clark told ESPN. "Right now, we have to tone Ben down in a sense and say, ‘Hey, right now, we're not a good enough football team for you to try to extend plays, for us to take sacks, for us to have turnovers.' ”

Clark might want to look at the Steelers’ running game for the main reason why the team can’t get into the end zone. They have the worst rushing offense in the league, averaging 58 yards per game. Rookie Le’Veon Bell will get the bulk of the carries after returning from an injury. He’ll play behind an offense live that will feature some changes. The Steelers traded for left tackle Levi Brown, and guard Ramon Foster could be out with a strained pectoral muscle.

Pittsburgh heads to MetLife Stadium, having had two weeks to prepare for the Jets. The Steelers are 5-1 in the game following their bye, under head coach Mike Tomlin.

It seems only fitting that the Los Angeles Dodgers and St. Louis Cardinals will meet in the 2013 National League Championship Series. For the majority of the regular season, they were the best teams in baseball. St. Louis’ 97 wins were tied for the MLB lead, and L.A. has been the best team since June.

On Friday night, the two clubs will continue their run towards the World Series. The Cardinals have home-field advantage.

St. Louis has reached the last three NLCS’s, but Los Angeles may be more experienced where it counts. In Game One, the Dodgers will send Zack Greinke to the mound against Joe Kelly. While Greinke has been in the Majors for 10 years, Kelly has only made 32 career starts. Including the postseason, the 25-year-old has appeared in 38 games this year, including 22 out of the bullpen. He became a fixture in the rotation after the All-Star break, registering a 1.91 ERA.

‘‘You could be laid off for eight days and come out and play absolutely the best baseball you've ever done,’’ Kelly said, who hasn’t pitched since Game Three of the NLDS against the Pirates. ‘‘You could come out and play the next day and not have a good game. This is all about execution.’’

Through one year of Greinke’s $147 million contract, the Dodgers don’t appear to be having any regrets. The veteran went 15-4 with a 2.63 ERA, making it the best year of his career, since he won the Cy Young award in 2009. Now, he’ll have to prove he can match that level of performance when it counts the most. In 2011, the only other time he appeared in the playoffs, Greinke had a 6.48 ERA. The NLDS saw him give up two runs in six innings in a losing effort to the Atlanta Braves.

Half of the Cardinals postseason rotation, which includes rookie Michael Wacha, has never been in this position before. The rest of the club, though, has plenty of postseason experience. St. Louis’ top hitters have had a lot of success against Greinke in the past. The Cardinals roster is hitting a combined .301 in 113 career at-bats against the Dodgers pitcher. Carlos Beltran is only 1-7, but he might be the best performer in postseason history.

Andre Ethier was only used sparingly in the NLDS against the Braves because of an ankle injury, picking up one walk in four pinch-hit appearances. Manager Don Mattingly would not rule out the 31-year-old playing centerfield in Game One.

"Whatever role they need, I want to figure out how I can contribute more," Ethier said. "Pinch hitting is obviously a big role, and you can make a big impact, coming off the bench and getting a big hit. But I feel like I can do well on defense, too, playing center field. I felt like I did that well all year. And that's probably the most frustrating part.

The Cardinals are playing in their first game since Wednesday. The Dodgers haven’t stepped on the field in four days.

getdiscountz.blogspot.com ® USC Trojans Vs. Arizona Wildcats: TV Channel Finder, Where To Watch Live, Prediction, Betting Odds, And Preview For Pac-12 Showdown In Ed Orgeron's First Game As Coach

Less than two weeks removed from Lane Kiffin’s firing, the USC Trojans begin a new era on Thursday as they welcome the Arizona Wildcats to Los Angeles Coliseum.

It marks the first game for interim head coach Ed Orgeron at the helm. Orgeron, 52, had a record of 10-25 in three seasons as head coach for Ole Miss from 2005-2007. He had previously served as an assistant with USC from 1998-2004, and then rejoined the program in 2010 under Kiffin as the defensive line coach.

Orgeron is expected to keep the position warm for whoever athletic director Pat Haden brings in for the 2014 season, but also to right a ship that has drastically sailed off course. Even with some of the best talent in the country, the Trojans are last in the Pac-12 in scoring offense with 26 points and 380.4 yards a game. Haden has stated that Orgeron is a candidate for the job in 2014, but it would probably take a dramatic USC turnaround for the final eight regular season games and a return to a bowl game for that to happen.

At 3-2, the Trojans are off to their worst start since 2002, including the 62-41 meltdown to Arizona State that proved to be Kiffin’s downfall. Top receiver Marqise Lee also suffered a knee injury, and while he’s improving, Lee isn’t expected to play against the Wildcats.

USC allowed 28 third-quarter points and committed four turnovers to Arizona State, with quarterback Cody Kessler completing 20-of-29 passes for 295 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. Underclassmen rushers Tre Madden and Justin Davis combined for 250 rushing yards and four touchdowns. Madden also caught another two touchdowns off three receptions for 66 yards.

Senior Silas Redd could add another weapon to that young rushing corps, while making up for Lee’s absence. Redd led the Trojans with 905 rushing yards last year, and will make his season debut against Arizona after undergoing two procedures on his knee since spring practice.

The Wildcats are coming off their first loss of the season, a 31-13 letdown to Pac-12 rival Washington, on Sept. 28. Arizona surrendered a season-high 244 rushing yards, and quarterback B.J. Denker was intercepted twice.

Junior tailback Ka’Deem Carey compiled his third straight 100-yard game and his one touchdown extended his scoring streak to 12 consecutive games dating back to last season. Carey has rushed for 431 yards in three games this season, after rushing for an impressive total of 1,929 in 2012.

The Wildcats have also done an excellent job of protecting the football and forcing opponents into mistakes. With senior safety Tra’Mayne Bondurant’s tallying three of the team’s seven interceptions, the Wildcats are second in the Pac-12 with a plus-five turnover margin, while committing just four total turnovers.

The game kicks off at 10:30 p.m. ET and will be broadcast by Fox Sports 1. You can find the channel in your area here.

Betting Odds: USC favored by 6 points.

getdiscountz.blogspot.com ® New York Jets Vs. Atlanta Falcons: TV Channel, Where To Watch Free Online, Prediction, Betting Odds, Team News And Preview For Monday Night Football

The 2013 NFL hasn’t started the way the Atlanta Falcons expected. Following a trip to the NFC Championship Game, the Falcons began the year as one of the favorites to reach the Super Bowl. Now, Atlanta enters it’s Week Five contest hoping to avoid a 1-4 start.

On the bright side for the defending NFC South champs, their losses have come to some of the best teams in football. They defeated by the unbeaten New Orleans Saints and the 4-1 New England Patriots. Atlanta also lost on the road to the Miami Dolphins. On Monday Night Football, though, they should get one of their easier tests this season.

The New York Jets, who actually have a better record at 2-2, will look to pull off one of the biggest upsets this year when they visit Atlanta. The Falcons are double-digit favorites, despite their early struggles.

"You just don't panic," said Roddy White. "You are what you earn in this league, so we're 1-3. You just go out there and correct the problems that you have and get ready for the next game. We know at 1-3 that we can't get back to .500 after one game."

The wide receiver remains optimistic about Atlanta’s chances going forward, even if he’s having a disappointing season. White hasn’t missed a game and will likely suit up against the Jets, but he’s been battling an ankle injury. In four contests, the wide receiver has just 84 total yards and hasn’t caught more than three catches a game.

"I've got to get right," White said. "The bye week is coming at really, really good time. No vacation. No time off for Roddy. No cruising. No, none of that. I'll be cruising right here in the training room."

Without White at a 100 percent, Matt Ryan has been able to put up big numbers. He leads the third-best passing offense in football, with Julio Jones heading into Week Five as the NFL’s leading receiver. In his 17th season, Tony Gonzalez is still one of the best tight ends in the league, recording 242 receiving yards and three touchdowns, thus far.

Going up against an explosive offense, the pressure will be on Geno Smith. The rookie suffered his worst loss last week when the Tennessee Titans blew out New York 38-13. The quarterback threw two more interceptions, increasing his total to right on the year.

Atlanta has more talent on offense but their struggles in the red zone could keep New York in the game. Only the Patriots and Jacksonville Jaguars have done a worse job of getting the ball in the end zone once they get to the 20-yard line. The Jets have converted 50 percent of their red zone opportunities, compared to 38.9 percent for the Falcons.

New York should be returning to offensive starters with wide out Stephen Hill and running back Chris Ivory both listed as probably. Santonio Holmes has been ruled out with knee and hamstring issues.

getdiscountz.blogspot.com ® MLB Playoffs 2013: TV Schedule, Betting Odds, Online Stream Information, Team News And Predictions For Monday's ALDS And NLDS

For the final time in the 2013 season, there are four games on the MLB schedule. Following Monday’s slate, there will never be more than two games per night.

Three of the four series can come to an end, with only the Detroit-Oakland matchup guaranteed to last until Tuesday. The Red Sox are going for a sweep, while the Cardinals and Braves are in trouble after having lost home-field advantage.

Each game can be seen on national TV or with a live stream online by purchasing Postseason.TV.

Oakland Athletics vs. Detroit Tigers (MLB Network, 1:07 p.m. ET)

This series has been the most low-scoring of the 2013 playoffs, and that trend could continue on Monday. Detroit starts Anibal Sanchez, who led the AL in ERA. Jarrod Parker will start for Oakland against a lineup that has been held scoreless for 17 straight innings. The Tigers are heavy favorites (-150), despite their offensive struggles. The Athletics (+140) have only scored three runs in the first two games.

Prediction: Oakland 3, Detroit 1

St. Louis Cardinals vs. Pittsburgh Pirates (TBS, 3:07 p.m. ET)

It’s been 34 years since the Pirates won a playoff series, but that could all change on Monday afternoon. In Game Four, they’ll try to advance to the NLDS as they send Charlie Morton to the hill. The Cardinals are slight favorites sot send the series to a fifth game in St. Louis. Their betting odds have been set at -115 with Michael Wacha to the mound. The 22-year-old has been terrific in his last five outings, pitching to a 1.72 ERA. The Pirates are+105 underdogs, having lost the last seven games in which Morton has started against St. Louis.

Prediction: St. Louis 4, Pittsburgh 2

Boston Red Sox vs. Tampa Bay Rays (TBS, 6:07 p.m. ET)

The Rays are the only playoff team to lose their first two division series games, and they’re trying to avoid a sweep on Monday night. Alex Cobb has already won an elimination game, defeating the Cleveland Indians in the wild card round. Now, he’ll face Clay Buchholz and the Red Sox. Cobb will have his hands full, facing a Boston lineup that is hitting .352 in two games. As a result, they are road favorites (-112) against the Rays (+102).

Prediction: Boston 7, Tampa Bay 3

Atlanta Braves vs. Los Angeles Dodgers (TBS, 9:37 p.m. ET)

The Braves are still alive after their Game Three Loss on Sunday night, but their hopes now rest on the shoulders of a player who wasn’t even on their roster until a month ago. Freddy Garcia gets the call in Game Four after joining the rotation in the middle of September. He was released by the Baltimore Orioles in June with a 5.77 ERA, but only allowed four runs in three starts with Atlanta. Garcia will have to look out for Hanley Ramirez, who’s six extra-base hits have tied the record the most in a Division Series. With Ricky Nolasco on the mound, the Dodgers (-150) are the biggest favorites of the night. Atlanta’s odds have been set at +140.

After the first weekend of the 2013 MLB playoffs, no series has been tighter than the one between the Detroit Tigers and Oakland Athletics. On Monday afternoon, one team will look to become a win away from advancing to the ALCS.

The American League Division series between the Tigers and Athletics is knotted up at one game apiece. Game Three will take place in Detroit, following two highly-contested matchups in Oakland. Games One and Two were both decided by a single run.

In the regular season, the Tigers and A’s had the best starting rotations in the AL. That has proven to be no fluke in the postseason, with every starter delivering strong performances. For Detroit, Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander both went seven innings, striking out 11 batters. Following a rough first inning for Bartolo Colon, Oakland’s starters have been unhittable. The Tigers have been held scoreless since they put up three runs in the opening frame of the series.

Jarrod Parker will try to keep the Athletics shutout streak alive in Game Three. He had 3.97 ERA this season, but finished poorly with a 6.41 ERA in September. Not only will the 24-year-old be looking to give his team a 2-1 advantage, but a victory would also be redemption for last year’s playoffs. Parker made two starts in the 2012 ALDS, including a Game Five loss that sent the Tigers into the ALCS. He gave up four runs in 6.1 innings, while Verlander went the distance for a complete game shutout.

"I think making two postseason starts last year is definitely a benefit for me this year," Parker said on Sunday. "I'm going to be able to settle in and slow things down right away. It's not going to be so foreign, I guess. It's just being there in it last year, it's one of those things where you pull from those things. You pull from the last two games, that atmosphere."

Against Parker, the Tigers will send Anibal Sanchez to the mound. He may be the No.3 starter, but Sanchez, arguably, had the best year on Detroit’s staff. Scherzer is the Cy Young favorite after winning 21 games, but Sanchez led the AL with a 2.57 ERA. His terrific regular season came after he was dominant in the 2012 playoffs. The 29-year-old had a 1.77 ERA in three starts last October.

“We knew we were getting a guy that was going to keep you in the game, but he’s definitely been much better than I think anybody thought, as far as his consistency,” said Tigers catcher Alex Avila.

Sanchez may have to be close to perfect, considering Detroit’s struggles at the plate. The Tigers .283 average led the AL in the regular season, but they are hitting just .219 in the ALDS. MVP favorite Miguel Cabrera has yet to get an extra-base hit, and the club is still without a homerun.

“I haven’t seen any signs of anybody on our club pressing,” Detroit Manager Jim Leyland said. “I think they’re really competing; they seem to be in good spirits; clubhouse has good atmosphere, so I can’t say that. You know, you never really know because you don’t – you know – you can’t get inside the individual to know the answer to that question, but I don’t really see any signs of that.”

getdiscountz.blogspot.com ® Dallas Cowboys Vs. Denver Broncos: Prediction, Betting Odds, TV Channel, Where To Watch Online Stream And Team News [NFL Preview]

The NFL has seen some explosive offenses in the past few years. In 2007, the New England Patriots set a record by scoring 589 points in the regular season. The 2011 Green Bay Packers finished as the second-best offense in NFL history, and last year’s Patriots came two points per game shy of the all-time mark. In 2013, however, the Denver Broncos may surpass all of those teams.

Through four weeks, the defending AFC West champs have been unstoppable. The New England team that went undefeated averaged 36.8 points per game. Thus far, the Broncos are scoring just a shade under 45. In Week Five, they’ll look to continue their dominance when they visit the Dallas Cowboys.

Dallas will try to be the first team to remain competitive with Denver for a complete game. At 4-0, all of the Broncos wins have come by at least 16 points.

Peyton Manning is the midst of a historical season at the quarterback position. He’s leading all signal callers in every major statistical category -- passing yards, completion percentage, touchdowns and rating. Along with his 16 scores, Manning has yet to thrown an interception.

"He's efficient, man," Broncos defensive back Champ Baily said. "And hopefully he gets better -- I don't know how, but hopefully he does -- because this guy's a prime example of what it takes to be a great quarterback in this league.”

There isn’t much reason to believe that the Cowboys secondary will have any more success than the teams that have come before them. Quarterbacks are averaging 382.3 passing yards per game against Dallas. Both Philip Rivers and Eli Manning went for over 400. Now, they’ll have to contend with the likes of Demaryius Thomas, Eric Decker and Wes Welker.

If the Cowboys are going to win a shootout, they have a quarterback who’s good enough to give them a chance. Tony Romo is off to, arguably, the best start of his career. He hasn’t been as good as Manning, but his eight touchdowns and one interception have made him one of the best in football. In his eighth year as a starter, the much maligned quarterback might be playing better than he ever has before.

“He’s has had this thing where he’s turned the ball over in the past in tough situations,’’ said Baily, in regards to Romo. “He’s not doing that this year. That is probably the biggest difference in the offense from the previous offenses I’ve seen from them. He’s playing great.’’

After completely dominating the Tampa Bay Rays in Game One, the Boston Red Sox have the chance go up 2-0 in their American League Division Series on Saturday night at Fenway Park.

A day removed from a 12-2 beat down, Rays ace David Price will try to stop the bleeding and earn his second career postseason win, while Boston 12-game winner John Lackey takes the mound in October for the first time in four years. Lackey's last postseason start was a no decision in the 2009 ALCS with Anaheim.

The Sox did most of their damage in a five-run fourth, with a three RBI day for catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia, and two runs each for Dustin Pedroia, David Ortiz and Jonny Gomes.

Going just 4 1/3 innings, Rays lefty Matt Moore was tagged for seven earned runs off eight hits and two walks, and threw four strikeouts. The Tampa bullpen also struggled in the eighth, with reliever Jamey Wright surrendering four earned runs and two walks on 30 pitches.

Boston’s Jon Lester pitched a masterful 7 2/3 innings, spreading out three hits and two earned runs with seven strikeouts. The eight-year veteran is now 3-3 in seven postseason starts, and only threw two errant pitches that resulted in home runs by Rays leftfielder Sean Rodriguez and second baseman Ben Zobrist.

Tampa’s offense, which was fourth in on-base percentage and 11th in runs scored in the majors, didn’t look like the squad that won nine of its last 11 games to make the playoffs.

Price’s last start came in Monday’s 5-2 victory over Texas that earned the Rays their third playoff berth in four seasons. The lefty pitched a complete game, giving up two earned on seven hits and one walk. After four games, including two narrow victories against lesser opponents Akron and Connecticut, the Michigan Wolverines have been called a middle of the road team.

Now the No. 19 team in the country puts up its undefeated mark against Big Ten rival Minnesota on Saturday afternoon at Michigan Stadium.

The Golden Gophers questioned Michigan’s play, and asked why some have called their opponent elite at all this season.

"The fact they almost lost to Akron, they're human," Minnesota defensive tackle Ra’Shede Hageman said to the Detroit News. "You know what I mean? Everybody praises them to be elite and I just feel like they're a regular football team."

Both teams are hovering around sixth to eighth in every major Big Ten category, with luck and a few bounces the only thing really separating them at this point.

The Wolverines needed 10 fourth quarter points to silence Connecticut in a 24-21 road victory two weeks ago, and hung on in the final moments the week prior in a 28-24 squeaker against Akron.

Minnesota started Big Ten play last week and fell to Iowa 23-7, failing to generate any semblance of an offense with 165 total yards.

Michigan quarterback Devin Gardner has thrown for 801 yards and seven touchdowns, and is tied with running back Fitzgerald Toussaint for the team lead in rushing scores with five. But Gardner has been plagued by turnovers, with a Big Ten leading eight interceptions.

The Gophers have the nation’s 23rd ranked rushing attack, posting 231.8 yards a game thanks to the triumvirate of rushers David Cobb, Rodrick Williams Jr., and Mitch Leidner.

Minnesota quarterback Philip Nelson has also chipped in 203 rushing yards and three scores to go along with 380 yards and two touchdowns in the air. Nelson has also tossed four interceptions.

Upperclassmen linebackers Brennen Beyer and Cameron Gordon each have two sacks for the Wolverines, and might be able to shut down Minnesota’s ground attack, while junior defensive back Blake Countess is tied for second in the Big Ten with three interceptions.

The game kicks-off at 3:30 p.m. ET and will be broadcast by ABC and ESPN2 depending on your region of the country. Or watch a live online stream at Watch ESPN here.

Betting Odds: Michigan is favored by 20 points.

Over/Under: 50 points.
