The future of Chelsea target Fredy Guarin remains uncertain, with Internazionale claiming that they have ended discussions with the Blues, despite his agent stating that the player remains in limbo.

The Colombian midfielder has been heavily linked with Chelsea in recent weeks, with Jose Mourinho believed to be keen to bolster an area of his squad that remains a weakness. Speaking on Monday, Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio confirmed there had been an approach from Chelsea, but that they had resolved to keep the player who arrived from Porto in 2012.

“Guarin is an Inter player and we are happy to keep him," he told Sky Sport Italia. "Denying the contacts with Chelsea would be denying the evidence. It is a source of pride to talk with them about one of our players, but everything stopped there.

"We are happy Guarin could stay with us for a long time. We don't have the intention to sell him. He's an important player."

However, Guarin’s agent, Marcelo Ferreyra has denied reports that his client’s demands prevented a move to Stamford Bridge and heavily hinted that he wants the 27-year-old to be handed an improved contract if he is to remain with the Nerazzurri.

“We have never got offers from Chelsea,” he told FCInterNews. “We are happy at Inter, even if we don't know what [new club president] Erick Thohir's intentions are. It's time that Thohir, [coach, Walter] Mazzarri and Inter's leadership decide what to do with Fredy.

“We want to know what the president thinks about my client, because if he considers him the best player of the team he must be valued like this,” he added.

Another clear weakness in Mourinho’s squad is up front, where Fernando Torres, Samuel Eto’o and Demba Ba have struggled for goals this season. While Mourinho has stated he will not bring in a new striker in January, rumors have continued to link Chelsea with a move for Atletico Madrid’s Diego Costa. Yet, what always looked an unlikely switch this month has now been shut down by Atletico’s sporting director Jose Luis Caminero.

"The player has a clause of 38 million euros and the big clubs in England know this," he is quoted as saying by Marca, according to Sky Sports.

"Diego Costa has matured and is smart when it comes to decision making. “Right now, Costa does not think of leaving, he is hooked on Atletico. He has re-signed a deal that is important, I am confident he will continue with us."

There has also been renewed speculation about the man Chelsea chased to fill their attacking void last summer, Wayne Rooney. The Blues failed with their attempts to prize the England international away from Old Trafford in the last transfer window, but with Rooney still to sign an extension to a contract that expires in 18 months’ time, his long-term future remains uncertain.

The Daily Mail has claimed that talks over a new deal will take place this month, with Chelsea eagerly monitoring the situation and ready to launch a £30 million bid.

There were rumors that Rooney might move to Stamford Bridge in the summer as part of a swap deal that took Juan Mata in the opposite direction. While the Spaniard is unlikely to be allowed to join a Premier League rival, speculation continues to link the Spaniard with a move away after his struggles for game time under Mourinho.

The latest story comes from the Daily Mirror, which asserts that Mata’s father and agent, Juan senior, will hold talks with Chelsea’s hierarchy this week, with Atletico Madrid weighing up a loan move with a view to a permanent deal.

Manchester United boss David Moyes conceded that he is less than confident of being able to attain his main targets in the January transfer window. Having missed out on a number of targets in the summer and endured a poor start to the season, there is much pressure on Moyes to start putting things right next month. However, he is aware that it will be tough to get the players he wants in mid-season.

“We will look [at targets]," he said, according to Sky Sports. "But I wouldn't turn around and say that I'm massively sure that we will get them. Because a lot of the players we would be interested in wouldn't be available for us in that month of January. But we'll certainly be looking."

United have been linked with ambitious moves for Radamel Falcao and Diego Costa of late, but Moyes has dismissed the need for a striker.

Falcao is reportedly unsettled at Monaco, following his big-money summer move and is also said to be interesting Real Madrid and Chelsea. Costa, meanwhile, has thrived on the responsibility on his shoulders following Falcao’s exit from Atletico Madrid and has hit 19 goals in just 17 La Liga appearances this season. The Brazilian-born 25-year-old, who has declared his intention to play for Spain, is also thought to be on the radar of Arsenal and Chelsea. Moyes, though, believes he is adequately covered up front.

"I would not say we are in desperate need of an out-and-out centre-forward," he explained. "We have got Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney, Chicharito [Javier Hernandez], Danny Welbeck. Shinji [Kagawa] can play in behind as well, we are covered.

"It is easy for people to throw names up, but when they look at it more closely you might say it wasn't that good a suggestion."

Instead Moyes is likely to put a greater importance in improving the side’s creativity. The Sun has reported that the former Everton manager is lining up a £25 million transfer for Schalke’s highly rated attacking midfielder Julian Draxler.

The 20-year-old has been linked to many of Europe’s top clubs and has long been seen as one of the continent’s best prospects. Already a regular member of the Germany squad, he has scored four goals and contributed six assists in 22 appearances for his club this season. It is far-fetched to believe that Draxler will move to Old Trafford in January and certainly not for the fee suggested.

Schalke are through to the last 16 of the Champions League, giving him an incentive to stay, and he would be cup-tied for United in that competition. His Bundesliga club are also unlikely to listen to offers that do not match his €45 million (£37.7m) release clause.

Real Madrid’s Angel di Maria, with whom Manchester United are one of a number of clubs to be linked, would appear to be a more realistic target. However, the Argentine winger, whose place has been put under the threat by the arrival of Gareth Bale, has dismissed reports that he wants to leave the Bernabeu.

“I do not want to go,” he said, told Spanish sports daily AS, according to ESPN. “I want to win my place in the team. Not me, nor anyone in my camp, has asked for a new contract. What came out was lies. I have been through some difficult days. I am just thinking about Real Madrid and I am still working hard. I have to keep going and try to earn a place in the team.”

Arsenal Transfer News: Casillas, Costa, Mitroglou And Volland Linked In Latest Rumors getdiscountz.blogspot.com

A major new name has been put forward to solve Arsenal’s lack of strength in depth up front, with the Gunners sending scouts to watch Atletico Madrid’s Diego Costa, according to reports on Wednesday. It is widely anticipated that Arsene Wenger will look to bring in a striker in the January transfer window to take the strain off of Olivier Giroud.

Wenger has suggested of late that, with Nicklas Bendtner showing improved signs recently and Theo Walcott, Lukas Podolski and Yaya Sanogo either returned or due to return soon form injury, he may not need to enter the market for a forward. However, it would be taking a significant risk not to bring in another option, with none of that quartet inspiring confidence in their ability to lead the line for an extended period of time.

Both the Daily Mail and Goal.com now report that Arsenal will have scouts present to watch Costa in action twice in the coming days. Accelerating Arsenal’s interest is said to be their learning of the player’s reported buyout clause of around £30 million.

Arsenal are unlikely to be the only club monitoring a player who has excelled this season to fire Atletico to a place level on points with Barcelona at the top of La Liga and top their group en route to the Champions League knockout phase. The 25-year-old has scored 17 goals in 15 La Liga matches as well as four in three outings in the Champions League. Costa has also been at the center of a tug of war at international level, as he has decided to represent Spain, rather than the country of his birth, Brazil.

The possibility that Costa will increase his value with a strong showing at next year’s World Cup is cited as one of the reasons why Atletico will be loathed to lose him in January. Ultimately, of course, if Arsenal meet his release clause, the decision will rest with the player. And there appears little reason why Costa would want to switch Atletico for the Emirates in the middle of such a successful season for his side. He would also be cup-tied for the Champions League were he to make the move.

For a while now, Arsenal have been strongly linked by another of Europe’s most in-form strikers, Kostas Mitroglou. The Olympiakos man has hit more than a goal a game in the Greek League, while he also struck a hat-trick in the Champions League against Anderlecht. The Daily Star claims that Arsenal will vie with Liverpool for a player they believe could be available for £7.5 million.

Olympiakos coach Michel has conceded that it will be difficult for the Greek champions to hold onto their star man.

“If he keeps on doing well, it will be hard to keep him,” he said, according to the Star. “We’ve known for some time that there has been interest from many clubs, but that’s only logical considering how well he has been doing lately.”

Meanwhile, the Daily Mirror has reported that Arsenal and Liverpool are also battling to secure the signature of Hoffenheim’s highly rated wide forward Kevin Volland. The Germany Under-21 international has struck seven goals in 15 appearances this campaign, but is also said to be attracting the interest of Bayern Munich.

A story has resurfaced that Arsenal are still monitoring Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas. The Spain captain has failed to return to the number one role at Madrid under Carlo Ancelotti, although he has been playing in cup and Champions League fixtures. Casillas has previously suggested that he would have to review the situation in January and both Arsenal and Manchester City are believed to be keen to know the 32-year-old’s decision.

Given the return to form this season of Wojciech Szczesny, it would be something of a surprise were Arsenal to commit what would doubtless need to be a significant financial package to bring Casillas to the Emirates Stadium.
