The 2013 NFL hasn’t started the way the Atlanta Falcons expected. Following a trip to the NFC Championship Game, the Falcons began the year as one of the favorites to reach the Super Bowl. Now, Atlanta enters it’s Week Five contest hoping to avoid a 1-4 start.

On the bright side for the defending NFC South champs, their losses have come to some of the best teams in football. They defeated by the unbeaten New Orleans Saints and the 4-1 New England Patriots. Atlanta also lost on the road to the Miami Dolphins. On Monday Night Football, though, they should get one of their easier tests this season.

The New York Jets, who actually have a better record at 2-2, will look to pull off one of the biggest upsets this year when they visit Atlanta. The Falcons are double-digit favorites, despite their early struggles.

"You just don't panic," said Roddy White. "You are what you earn in this league, so we're 1-3. You just go out there and correct the problems that you have and get ready for the next game. We know at 1-3 that we can't get back to .500 after one game."

The wide receiver remains optimistic about Atlanta’s chances going forward, even if he’s having a disappointing season. White hasn’t missed a game and will likely suit up against the Jets, but he’s been battling an ankle injury. In four contests, the wide receiver has just 84 total yards and hasn’t caught more than three catches a game.

"I've got to get right," White said. "The bye week is coming at really, really good time. No vacation. No time off for Roddy. No cruising. No, none of that. I'll be cruising right here in the training room."

Without White at a 100 percent, Matt Ryan has been able to put up big numbers. He leads the third-best passing offense in football, with Julio Jones heading into Week Five as the NFL’s leading receiver. In his 17th season, Tony Gonzalez is still one of the best tight ends in the league, recording 242 receiving yards and three touchdowns, thus far.

Going up against an explosive offense, the pressure will be on Geno Smith. The rookie suffered his worst loss last week when the Tennessee Titans blew out New York 38-13. The quarterback threw two more interceptions, increasing his total to right on the year.

Atlanta has more talent on offense but their struggles in the red zone could keep New York in the game. Only the Patriots and Jacksonville Jaguars have done a worse job of getting the ball in the end zone once they get to the 20-yard line. The Jets have converted 50 percent of their red zone opportunities, compared to 38.9 percent for the Falcons.

New York should be returning to offensive starters with wide out Stephen Hill and running back Chris Ivory both listed as probably. Santonio Holmes has been ruled out with knee and hamstring issues.

getdiscountz.blogspot.com ® Boston Red Sox Vs. Tampa Bay Rays: TV Channel, Where To Watch Free Online, Prediction, Betting Odds, Team News And MLB Playoff Preview For 2013 ALDS Game 2

After completely dominating the Tampa Bay Rays in Game One, the Boston Red Sox have the chance go up 2-0 in their American League Division Series on Saturday night at Fenway Park.

A day removed from a 12-2 beat down, Rays ace David Price will try to stop the bleeding and earn his second career postseason win, while Boston 12-game winner John Lackey takes the mound in October for the first time in four years. Lackey's last postseason start was a no decision in the 2009 ALCS with Anaheim.

The Sox did most of their damage in a five-run fourth, with a three RBI day for catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia, and two runs each for Dustin Pedroia, David Ortiz and Jonny Gomes.

Going just 4 1/3 innings, Rays lefty Matt Moore was tagged for seven earned runs off eight hits and two walks, and threw four strikeouts. The Tampa bullpen also struggled in the eighth, with reliever Jamey Wright surrendering four earned runs and two walks on 30 pitches.

Boston’s Jon Lester pitched a masterful 7 2/3 innings, spreading out three hits and two earned runs with seven strikeouts. The eight-year veteran is now 3-3 in seven postseason starts, and only threw two errant pitches that resulted in home runs by Rays leftfielder Sean Rodriguez and second baseman Ben Zobrist.

Tampa’s offense, which was fourth in on-base percentage and 11th in runs scored in the majors, didn’t look like the squad that won nine of its last 11 games to make the playoffs.

Price’s last start came in Monday’s 5-2 victory over Texas that earned the Rays their third playoff berth in four seasons. The lefty pitched a complete game, giving up two earned on seven hits and one walk. He’ll face the best offense in baseball, headlined by Ortiz, who hit .293 for six home runs and 10 RBI in September.

The Rays will need much more out of statistical leader Evan Longoria. The third baseman went 0-for-2 with a walk in in Game One.

The game begins at 5:37 p.m. ET, and will be broadcast by TBS, or watch their live online stream at the channel’s official website here.

Betting Odds: Tampa Bay is favored by 1.5 runs.

Over/Under: 7.5 runs

getdiscountz.blogspot.com ® Michigan Wolverines Vs. Minnesota Golden Gophers: TV Channel, Where To Watch Free Online, Prediction, Betting Odds, Preview And Team News For Saturday's Big 10 College Football Game

After four games, including two narrow victories against lesser opponents Akron and Connecticut, the Michigan Wolverines have been called a middle of the road team.

Now the No. 19 team in the country puts up its undefeated mark against Big Ten rival Minnesota on Saturday afternoon at Michigan Stadium.

The Golden Gophers questioned Michigan’s play, and asked why some have called their opponent elite at all this season.

"The fact they almost lost to Akron, they're human," Minnesota defensive tackle Ra’Shede Hageman said to the Detroit News. "You know what I mean? Everybody praises them to be elite and I just feel like they're a regular football team."

Both teams are hovering around sixth to eighth in every major Big Ten category, with luck and a few bounces the only thing really separating them at this point.

The Wolverines needed 10 fourth quarter points to silence Connecticut in a 24-21 road victory two weeks ago, and hung on in the final moments the week prior in a 28-24 squeaker against Akron.

Minnesota started Big Ten play last week and fell to Iowa 23-7, failing to generate any semblance of an offense with 165 total yards.

Michigan quarterback Devin Gardner has thrown for 801 yards and seven touchdowns, and is tied with running back Fitzgerald Toussaint for the team lead in rushing scores with five. But Gardner has been plagued by turnovers, with a Big Ten leading eight interceptions.

The Gophers have the nation’s 23rd ranked rushing attack, posting 231.8 yards a game thanks to the triumvirate of rushers David Cobb, Rodrick Williams Jr., and Mitch Leidner.

Minnesota quarterback Philip Nelson has also chipped in 203 rushing yards and three scores to go along with 380 yards and two touchdowns in the air. Nelson has also tossed four interceptions.

Upperclassmen linebackers Brennen Beyer and Cameron Gordon each have two sacks for the Wolverines, and might be able to shut down Minnesota’s ground attack, while junior defensive back Blake Countess is tied for second in the Big Ten with three interceptions.

The game kicks-off at 3:30 p.m. ET and will be broadcast by ABC and ESPN2 depending on your region of the country. Or watch a live online stream at Watch ESPN here.

Betting Odds: Michigan is favored by 20 points.

Over/Under: 50 points.

getdiscountz.blogspot.com ® Georgia Bulldogs Vs. Tennessee Volunteers: TV Channel, Where To Watch Free Online, Prediction, Betting Odds, Preview And Team News For Saturday's SEC College Football Game

Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray guns for the SEC career passing yardage record as the Bulldogs face the Tennessee Volunteers on Saturday afternoon at Neyland Stadium.

Murray will have a tough time breaking the record of 11,528 career passing yards, held by former Georgia passer David Greene, as the Volunteers are tied for the most interceptions in the country with 11 after five games.

Tennessee sophomore defensive back Brian Randolph leads the team with three picks, and freshman Cameron Sutton has five passes defensed. However opponents haven’t been afraid to test the Volunteers secondary. Tennessee has given up six touchdowns in the air, and 249.8 yards per game.

Saturday will be Tennessee’s third time facing a ranked opponent in four games, and after losses to Oregon and Florida, it managed a 31-24 victory over South Alabama last week.

Down early 7-0, Tennessee scored on four straight possessions and held off the Jaguars late. Junior quarterback Justin Worely barely countered three interceptions with two touchdowns, and running back Rajion Neal gained 169 yards and one score on 25 attempts.

No. 6 Georgia has ripped off three straight wins after its opening loss to Clemson, and is back in the national title conversation after topping LSU 44-41 last week. Murray threw for 298 yards and four touchdowns, and the Bulldogs outrushed the Tigers 196 to 77, despite losing top runner Todd Gurley early in the second quarter to a left ankle sprain.

Junior receiver Chris Conley posted his second straight game with five catches for 112 yards and his second touchdown of the year, while Michael Bennett made three receptions for 38 yards and two scores.

Gurley re-joined practice on Wednesday, and while there is no deadline for him to make, the sophomore’s status for Saturday is unclear.

"It's still just day to day," Georgia coach Mark Richt said to ESPN. "He tried a little bit today in the [indoor practice room] and he couldn't go today."

Keith Marshall filled in for Gurley against LSU, and finished with 96 yards on 20 carries. It’s reasonable to assume Marshall and Gurley could share time on the field to prevent any further injury to the SEC’s fifth best rusher.

The game kicks-off at 3:30 p.m. ET and will be broadcast by CBS, or watch a live online stream at CBS Sports here.

Betting Odds: Georgia is favored by 10.5 points.

Over/Under: 64.5 points.

getdiscountz.blogspot.com ® New Orleans Saints Vs. Miami Dolphins: TV Channel, Where To Watch Free Online, Prediction, Betting Odds, Team News And Preview For Monday Night Football

As the first quarter of the 2013 NFL season comes to a close, six teams have yet to lose their first game. By Tuesday morning, that number will be down to five.

Monday Night Football in Week 4 features two teams with a perfect record. The New Orleans Saints and Miami Dolphins both enter the contest at 3-0.

Both clubs are off to hot starts, but they appear to be viewed very differently by most experts. After missing the playoffs at 7-9 in 2012, the Saints have recovered to be the contender that many expected. With Sean Payton back on the sidelines following the Bountygate scandal, New Orleans is one of the favorites in the NFC. The Dolphins are in a similar position as the Saints, starting off undefeated after finishing two games under .500 last year. Miami, however, isn’t universally seen as a force to be reckoned with in the AFC.

The betting line has doubled since it was first set at the end of Week 3, making the Saints seven-point favorites. Only the Philadelphia Eagles and Jacksonville Jaguars were bigger underdogs in Week 4. The Eagles played the Super Bowl favorite Denver Broncos and the Jaguars have lost every game by double-digits.

The point spread can be partially explained by New Orleans’ dominance at home, but it may have more to with Miami. Despite wins against the Indianapolis Colts and Atlanta Falcons, expectations for the Dolphins have remained the same. Their Super bowl odds remain unchanged from the offseason, according to Bovada.

A win on Monday night could solidify the Dolphins as one of the best teams in football. One of the biggest reasons for the team’s improvement from last year has been the play of Ryan Tannehill. The quarterback no longer looks like the rookie that threw more interceptions than touchdowns in 2012. In his first season, 26 starting quarterbacks had a better passer rating than Tannehil. In 2013, he’s in the top 10 in rating, completion percentage and yards per attempt.

The Saints should have a chance to slow down Tannehill by putting pressure on the quarterback. The Dolphins offensive line has been susceptible to the pass rush, allowing him to be sacked 14 times, which was a league-high at the start of the week. New Orleans defensive end Cameron Jordan will look to take advantage and add to his team-leading three sacks.

Through three games, Drew Brees has continued to put up big passing numbers, averaging 340 yards in the air per game. It’s been the Saints defense, though, that has carried them to an unblemished record. The worst unit in 2012 looks completely different, allowing 12.7 points per contest, good for fourth in the league. Only the Houston Texans have allowed fewer passing yards.

This isn’t the first time these two teams played each other in 2013. Miami concluded the preseason with a 24-21 victory over New Orleans. Neither starting quarterback took a snap in the game. The Saints won the last regular season meeting between the two in 2009.

New Orleans enters the contest as the healthier team. A knee injury could keep defensive end Cameron Wake off the field. Defensive tackle Paul Soliai and linebacker Koa Misi are questionable, as well.

getdiscountz.blogspot.com ® San Francisco 49ers Vs. St. Louis Rams: TV Channel, Where To Watch Free Online, Prediction, Betting Odds, Team News And Preview For Thursday Night Football

This is not how the San Francisco 49ers expected to begin the 2013 NFL season. In the preseason, they were considered the favorites to win the Super Bowl. Now, they face the risk of starting off the year at 1-3 as they kick off Week 4.

San Francisco is set to begin this week’s NFL schedule with a visit to the St. Louis Rams on Thursday Night Football. It’s their second division game of the year, as well as their second appearance in primetime.

After an impressive victory over the Green Bay Packers in the opener, the 49ers have been blown out in their last two contests. Week 2 saw them lose to the Seattle Seahawks, which might not have been a complete surprise, if they were defeated by 26 points. On Sunday, San Francisco suffered an even more unexpected result when they lost to the Indianapolis Colts 27-7. With the game at home, the point spread had the 49ers favored by 10 points.

The 49ers will catch somewhat of a break on Thursday when they finally face a team that didn’t make the playoffs in 2012. It might not be easy for San Francisco, though, considering how poorly they’ve played. The betting line has the Rams set as three-point underdogs, and a win for St. Louis would put the 49ers in sole possession of last place.

The biggest reason for the 49ers struggles has been the play of Colin Kaepernick. Against the Packers, he set a career-high with 412 passing yards. He hasn’t come close to matching that in his last two games combined. In both losses, the quarterback has failed to complete 50 percent of his passes or throw for more than 150 yards. His four interceptions and no touchdowns in that time have put him at 25th in the NFL in passer rating.

While the 49ers best offensive player has been having trouble on the field, their best defensive player’s off-the-field issues will keep him from suiting up for the immediate future. Aldon Smith is no longer with the team, following an arrest for suspicion of DUI. He went to rehab for substance abuse after the team’s loss to the Colts. Police also found marijuana and pills his car. Last year, Smith was second in the league with 19.5 sacks, and his 4.5 sacks this season have him second, as well.

San Francisco could be without other star players, due to injury. Both Patrick Willis and Vernon Davis are questionable for the game. A groin injury prevented Willis from practicing on Tuesday, while was able to take the field on a limited basis.

The Rams are hoping to take advantage of their opponent’s issues and play as well against them as they did last season. In two games against their division rivals, St. Louis did not lose to San Francisco. On their way to a seven-win season, they defeated the 49ers at home and ended their contest on the road in a tie.

St. Louis is coming off losses to the Atlanta Falcons and Dallas Cowboys after an opening week victory over the Arizona Cardinals. The Rams have trailed by double-digits in every game.
