The latest chapter in the rivalry between the women’s hockey teams of the U.S. and Canada will be decided on Thursday. The teams will meet in the gold medal game at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics.
Women’s hockey was first introduced to the Olympics in 1998. Since then, the two countries have dominated the sport. Canada, though, has gotten the upper hand most of time. Team USA beat their neighbors to the north in the first event, but haven’t won a gold medal since. Canada has finished in first three straight times, including in 2006, when Sweden upset the U.S. for a trip to the finals.
Road To Finals
Both the U.S. and Canada began the tournament with wins on Feb. 8. Canada is undefeated, and handed the Americans their only loss. In their last time on the ice, Canada got by Switzerland, 3-1. The United States was dominant when it played on Monday, beating Sweden 6-1.
Betting Odds
Despite Canada’s history of dominance, the team isn’t expected to win the gold medal this year. Team USA is the favorite in Thursday’s competition, with their odds set at -140. Canada is a slight underdog at +115. The over/under for total goals scored is set at 4.5.

There are several ways to watch the final women’s hockey game at Sochi. The contest will air live at noon ET on NBC. Viewers who can’t get to a TV can watch a free live stream online with NBC Sports Live Extra. The matchup will also be replayed later in the day at 5 p.m. ET on the NBC Sports Network.
