A South Florida criminal became the victim of his own self-promotion on Instagram.
The Instagram page of Dupree Johnson, 19, recently caught the attention of a sheriff in Palm Beach County, Fla. The photos posted to the account showed Johnson and another friend showing off both handguns and jewelry, reports AL.com.
The sheriff decided to investigate if Johnson had a record, ultimately discovering the teen had a rap sheet that included grand theft, burglary, and felony possession of a firearm. A search warrant was issued for Johnson's home in Lake Worth, Fla., where deputies discovered more than just a few stolen handguns.
The Miami News Times reports that authorities found a Glock underneath his bedspread, and a stolen Tec-9 9mm pistol and a total $250,000 worth of stolen jewelry, electronics and firearms. And it is also believed that Johnson is possibly a leader in a crew of thieves that committed at least 40 burglaries in 55-and-older communities in Boynton Beach, Fla., says WPEC.com.
According to the Sun-Sentinel, Johnson was charged with 142 felony counts of being in possession of a weapon or ammo. Johnson's bail has been set at $60,000 and his Instagram page has been deactivated.
