Ryan Murphy's hit FX show American Horror Story premieres on Wednesday night and fans are dying to welcome back their favorite scary mini-series for the third season, Coven. Murphy's horror filled series, which changes its plot and character line-up each season, is about to get witchy.
We explored the L.A. Murder House in season one, last season we delved into the world of electroshock therapy in American Horror Story: Asylum, and this season the theme is witchcraft, appropriately named Coven. IBTimes TV spoke with IBTimes reporter Amanda Remling about the season premiere, the new cast, returning actors, and Murphy's creepy show teasers. [SPOILER ALERT]
AHS veteran Jessica Lange will return for her third season, this time playing Fiona -- the Supreme witch of her generation. Fiona runs a school for “exceptional young ladies,” a.k.a witches. The school is located in New Orleans, home of voodoo and the destination for witches running from Salem many years ago. Other reappearing actors include Sarah Paulson, Even Peters, Taissa Fermiga, Denis O'Hare, Lily Rabe, and Frances Conroy.
Oscar-winning actress Kathy Bates is a very exciting new addition to the AHS cast, playing Madame LaLaurie, based on a real-life socialite with a pension for murder and torture. Other new additions include Angela Bassett, Patti LuPone, Emma Roberts, and Gabourey Sidibe.
Ryan Murphy, who is also the man behind Nip/Tuck and Glee, clearly has a dark side and he loves it. He recently told the Huffington Post Coven is his favorite concept, and it might even be ripe for a spinoff. Murphy said, “I love this season – it's my favorite season that we've done so far, largely because of the comedy if it, and I think it's really scary.”
Coven premieres Wednesday, October 9 at 10PM on FX.
