Former “Fifty Shades of Grey” film star Charlie Hunnam spoke out for the first time since revealing he would leave the cast due to an inability to properly prepare for the Christian Grey role. There have been various rumors about why Hunnam left, including that he got cold feet and that he had issues with Universal Pictures over the script.
The “Sons of Anarchy” star cleared the air with E! News about his choice to step down when he made his first public appearance at the 2nd annual “Hogs for Heart” event that benefits One Heart Source Education Programs In Africa at Mo’s Restaurant in Burbank, Calif.
When he was asked how he was since leaving the silver screen adaptation of E.L. James’ highly anticipated film he said “I am doing good.” Then he added, “I am just really concentrating on work. It's been a really busy time.”
But Hunnam has also had personal issues weigh on him. The star’s father, Billy, passed away in May of this year and he had traveled back to England to be with his family. "I have had some family stuff going on so just trying to stay focused and stay positive and keep trying to do a good job at work and be with my family and stay positive,” he said.
The 33-year-old star is about to finish season six of the FX hit show and he dished on his plans for life after Jax Teller. "Like I said, I've got some family stuff I have to tend to. So when I wrap the show, I am going to go to England and see my people and then I have a film that I am doing with Guillermo [del Toro]. So I am going to go and do that and concentrate on the final seasons of Sons."
Dakota Johnson, who will play Anastasia Steele in the erotic film, is reportedly helping producers pick Hunnam’s replacement. According to producer Michael De Luca, they will have a new actor to play Christian Grey within the month.
