He wears a green Power Rangers costume and he assists young mothers with children, the elderly, and people with heavy baggage get around the Tokyo subway . His name is Tadahiro Kanemasu, and he’s a hero to those who come in contact with him.
Kanemasu, 27, has a day job – he’s a grocer. While on the job, seeing children inspired him to moonlight as a good Samaritan at one subway stop, where he’s been helping out riders for the last three months.
The 27-year-old subway superhero’s co-worker, Hayato Ito, told Reuters that Kanemasu’s kindness was always one of his traits.
"There were hints of this from a long time ago but finally he flowered as a hero," Ito said.
Kanemasu told Reuters that he’s thinking of expanding his superhero venture and is trying to recruit additional good Samaritans to join him on the subway.
The 27-year-old said it took time for subway riders to adjust to his good deeds.
"When I first began, people basically said 'Get away from me, you weirdo'," he said. "Now they still think I'm weird but in a good way."
Among the help Kanemasu gives in his Power Ranger outfit is assisting mothers with baby strollers and hauling heavy bags for struggling passengers.
