NBA free agent Lamar Odom’s drug abuse could extend as far back his playing days with the Dallas Mavericks and the Los Angeles Lakers, according to a new report.

Sources affiliated with a Memphis, Tenn., hotel reportedly told TMZ that Odom stayed in a guest room in March 2012, when he was still a member of the Mavericks. According to the sources, hotel employees discovered evidence at the time indicating that Odom had been using drugs during his stay.

According to TMZ’s sources, hotel workers discovered “white powder” on a desk in Odom’s room, and observed that the room “reeked of noxious smoke.” In addition, the room’s carpet possessed “quarter-sized burn marks,” and was reportedly so damaged that it required a replacement.

While the Memphis hotel incident occurred while Odom was a member of the Mavericks, the report suggests that the 33-year-old’s alleged drug use did not begin in Dallas. According to TMZ, several workers at hotels around the country complained about Odom’s drug-related behavior, some of which dated back to his days as a member of the Lakers. Odom played for the Lakers from 2004 to 2011.

Sources with knowledge of the situation also claimed to have knowledge of the substances that Odom used. The NBA veteran was reportedly smoking Oxycontin and cocaine while still a member of the Mavericks roster, TMZ reports. According to the report, Odom’s behavior became so disruptive that the team deactivated him during the 2011-12 NBA season. Odom’s drug abuse has purportedly escalated to an addiction to crack cocaine.

Reports of Odom’s alleged drug problem began last Wednesday, amid reports that the NBA star had separated from Khloe Kardashian, his wife of three years. Sources close to the marriage claimed that Kardashian refused to reunite with Odom until he admitted that he had a problem with crack cocaine.

As reports of his alleged drug abuse and marital problems escalated, Odom disappeared from the public eye and was not seen for more than 72 hours, TMZ reported. The disappearance prompted fears that Odom was off on a crack cocaine binge. However, Odom’s agent dismissed rumors that his client was in poor health, and the 33-year-old was spotted driving in the San Fernando valley on Monday.
