The son of legendary New York Giants linebacker Lawrence Taylor was released from prison Thursday after his arrest last month on charges of child molestation, sodomy, and statutory rape.
Lawrence Taylor Jr., 31, was arrested in July after an unnamed minor accused him of a variety of sexual crimes, TMZ reports. On Thursday, Taylor’s mother posted $50,000 bond to release the 31-year-old from a jail in Georgia.
The alleged victim’s name was kept a secret due to her age, but court documents revealed that she is less than 16 years of age, TMZ reports. According to a police warrant, the young girl claimed that Taylor Jr. had performed oral sex on her against her will, a charge identified as “sodomy” in legal documents. A separate underage girl accused Taylor of sexual assault last year.
Taylor will remain free on bond until his next court date, which has yet to be scheduled, TMZ reports. The 31-year-old will face three felony charges, including statutory rape, statutory aggravated sodomy, and aggravated child molestation. Taylor faces 25 years in prison for both the sodomy and child molestation charges, while the statutory rape charge could produce anywhere from a year to 20 years of prison time.
"Mr. Taylor has some serious challenges that lay ahead of him and we are focusing on those challenges,” Taylor’s lawyer told TMZ. “This is a tough case, no winners here."
Taylor Jr.’s father was once accused of sexual misbehavior as well. In 2010, the NFL Hall of Famer was arrested and charged with rape after engaging in sexual intercourse with an underage prostitute. The elder Taylor pled guilty to charges of patronizing a prostitute and sexual misconduct, and was sentenced to six years of probation. He was also required to officially register as a sex offender.
