The Ukrainian protest movement, also known as Euromaidan (which literally translates to “Eurosquare”) began to spiral out of control and into violence on the evening of February 18. By February 22 the Ukrainian Parliament voted to remove Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych, and his rival, former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko was freed from prison.
