Though the Android 4.4 KitKat update hit Sprint Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 handsets in February, the mobile network now confirms that rollouts have commenced for those handsets. The Sprint Galaxy S4 began updating on Feb. 13 while the Sprint Galaxy Note 3 began updating on Feb. 20.
With the most current Samsung flagships now updating on Sprint, the network is setting its sights on updating other devices in the Galaxy line. Those include the Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy S3, Galaxy S4 mini, Galaxy Mega and Galaxy Tab 3 7.0. Samsung has also confirmed that those devices, among many others, will receive Android 4.4 KitKat in the U.S. Sprint says it will announce exact rollout timing for its Galaxy models at a later date.
Prior to Samsung announcing the Android 4.4 update scheduled for its Galaxy devices, rumors suggested that the Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3, in particular, would begin receiving the new operating system in March, following the Galaxy S4 rollout.
Several Galaxy S4, including the Sprint, AT&T and U.S. Cellular models, have already updated in the U.S. The U.S. networks whose Galaxy S4 models still need to be updated are Verizon and T-Mobile; this may be a good sign that the Android 4.4 update may hit Sprint Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 models soon. Sprint has a regular track record of being one the first U.S. carriers to begin sending out system updates.
Barring any major issues with the Android 4.4 KitKat update on Galaxy devices, Sprint Galaxy models may begin to update in the coming weeks. Users can check for the Android 4.4 update manually by accessing Settings > General > About device > Software update on their Sprint Galaxy devices.
