Though total respondents amounted to 1,297 people, 408 were below 40 years of age. Among this group, 41 percent stated that they preferred the PS4. Only 27 percent indicated that they would opt for the Xbox One.
Overall, 26 percent of the 1,297 people that were surveyed indicated that they would prefer to buy a PlayStation 4 once Sony's next-generation console is available starting November 15. Meanwhile, 15 percent of participants stated that they would be buying an Xbox One once Microsoft's latest entry in the video game console market launches on November 22.
The sentiment reflected in these polls is likely a reaction to Microsoft's initial policies on used games and DRM, which they have since flipped on. This recent poll is merely a continuation of an overall trend. Last month, we ran a poll in conjunction with Polar, asking readers if they preferred the PS4 or the Xbox One controller. At the time, 75 percent of respondents indicated that they preferred the PS4's Dualshock 4 controller.
In July, we worked with Polar as well, asking readers which console they would prefer if they both cost $500. At the time, 80 percent indicated that they would choose the PS4 over the Xbox One. Several days later, we collaborated with Polar again on another poll, asking consumers if they would prefer the PS4 or the Xbox One if they both cost $400. Once again, 80 percent of participants indicated that they would grab a PS4 over an Xbox One at the time.
In the long run, both the PS4 and the Xbox One will both likely be huge successes. In the early going though, the court of public opinion clearly seems to favor Sony's opus over Microsoft's.
