The Nexus 5 is now available at its first U.S. carrier, Sprint, a little over one week after being officially announced on Halloween.
Upon being announced, Sprint detailed that it would carry the Nexus 5 starting at $150 with a two year contract; however, customers can currently get the device for as low at $50. When purchasing the Nexus 5 directly from Sprint, the carrier’s web discount and mail-in rebate bring the price of the Nexus 5 down to $50. Without a contract, the Nexus 5 directly from Sprint costs $449.99.
Retailers Amazon and Best Buy are also now offering the Sprint powered Nexus 5. On Amazon, the Nexus 5 is selling for $50 with a two-year contract and $499.99 off contract. At Best Buy, the Nexus 5 is selling for $149.99 with a two-year contract and $449.99 off contract.
Radio Shack is also expected to carry the Nexus 5, but the device is currently not available. Radio Shack is especially known for having special deals, discounts, and trade-in offers when introducing a new device.
The Nexus 5 is also offered at the Google Play Store, unlocked; the 16GB model costs $349.99, while the 32GB model costs $399.99. Sprint has confirmed that its network will power both the 16GB and 32GB models even though it only sells the 16GB. Some customers had trouble activating their unlocked Nexus 5 handsets, especially the 32GB model; however, now that the Nexus 5 is official on Sprint users should have no trouble with authenticating their devices.
The Nexus 5 has also released on a number of Canadian carriers including TELUS, Videotron, Rogers, Fido, Bell and Virgin. On TELUS the Nexus 5 is $99 with a two-year contract, and $500 off-contract. On Videotron the Nexus 5 is $49.95-$149.95 with a two year contract, and $499.95 off-contract. On Rogers the Nexus 5 is $99.99 with a two year contact, and $499.99 off-contract. On Fido the Nexus 5 is $200-$350 with a two year contact, and $500 off-contract. On Bell the Nexus 5 is $99.95 with a two year contact, and $499.95 off-contract. On Virgin the Nexus 5 is $99.99-$349.99 with a two year contact, $499.99 off-contract.
Still, in the U.S. T-Mobile still awaits its Nexus 5 release. A leaked document suggests T-Mobile will begin offering the Nexus 5 on Nov. 20; however, the carrier has not revealed any details itself. Costumers can currently only sign up for more information.
