Channing Tatum is showing Jean-Claude Van Damme that he is not the only man who can do a split, sort of. The 21 Jump Street actor made a spoof of the Belgian martial artist’s epic split, which he did as part of a new Volvo trucks ad.
The 'Expendables 2' actor showed off his talents in the commercial, which went viral last week and has over 36 million views after being released on Nov. 13. Van Damme does his famous split between two reversing trucks to demonstrate the stability and precision of Volvo Dynamic Steering. No special effects were used.
Tatum, while filming the sequel to '21 Jump Street,' aptly called '22 Jump Street,' spoofs the awe-inspiring commercial. The actor, instead of being between two trucks, stands on top of two food carts that are pulled together by crew members. In the beginning of Van Damme’s commercial, he says, “I’ve had my ups and downs. My fair share of bumpy roads and heavy winds. That’s what made me who I am today.”
Tatum starts off with the same first line, before proceeding to say, while in character as Jenko, “Being an undercover cop. That’s what made me what I am today. Surviving high school is no easy task. Neither being a college freshman at my age. But because of this, my body is now engineered to defy the law of physics and a mindset to master the most epic of split.”
While Tatum attempts to do a split, he does not master it nearly as well as Van Damme of course, and footage then shows Tatum on the ground holding his groin in pain while shouting curses. '22 Jump Street' is set for release in 2014.
