The up-and-coming actress being deemed the next Jennifer Lawrence, “Divergent” and “The Spectacular Now” star Shailene Woodley, recently made the arguably bad decision like many actors before her by bashing one of her former roles.
During an interview with Flaunt magazine, the 21-year-old actress shared her unfavorable opinions on the now defunct ABC Family series “The Secret Life of the American Teenager,” its former star deeming the show immoral. Woodley, who starred as the lead on the program which followed a teenage mother named Amy, said the finals seasons of the program conflicted with her own morals. “I didn't like it because if it started to change, I had no control over it," she said. “The things that we were preaching on that show weren't really aligned with my own integrity.”
While the California native, who first gained critical attention for her role in the 2011 drama “The Descendants” opposite George Clooney, didn’t specify the exact themes that troubled her, she did claim that her final years on the six-year series became a personal source of contention. “That was a bit hard to show up to work every day knowing that we were going to project all of these themes to thousands - millions - of young adults across the country when in fact they weren't what I would like to be sending out,” said Woodley.
When questioned why she didn’t prematurely leave the long-running ABC Family series which first premiered on the network in 2008, Woodley cited contractual obligations. “It's like anything in life, whether you're an actor or you work in an insurance office, if you want to be able to leave your job, it's nice to be able to leave your job,” she said. “But when you're in a contract, unfortunately, you can't do that."
Woodley last made headlines after Yahoo! News reported that eyewitnesses spotted her getting cozy with her “The Spectacular Now” and “Divergent” co-star Miles Teller. According to the report, the duo was seen acting like more than friends at the MTV Video Music Awards last month. “We watched as the two rising stars took turns wrapping their arms around each other's shoulders and cracking each other up," a source in the report said. "While all that might be nothing, it was definitely cute."
