The Center for American Progress analyzed how women are faring in the 50 U.S. states and found that substantial disparities exist from state to state.
More than 22 percent of women live in poverty in Louisiana, which is 11 percentage points higher than the poverty rate for women in Maryland, the report said. Women in Maryland are also more likely to reach leadership positions than women in Louisiana.
In Vermont, women earn 85 cents for every dollar a man makes, 8 cents more than the national average of 77 cents. But in Wyoming, women earn only 64 cents to a man's dollar, 25 percent less than in Vermont.
