Now that “Breaking Bad” is set to air its final episode next week, series star Bryan Cranston suddenly has a lot more time on his hands. In order to fill that time, Cranston is taking on more acting roles, including reprising his character on “How I Met Your Mother” that he last played in 2007.

CBS announced the news on Wednesday afternoon with the hashtag “#BreakingMother.”

Cranston’s character, Hammond Druthers, previously appeared in two episodes of the hit CBS sitcom as protagonist Ted Mosby’s insufferable boss. Lilly famously stole the character’s signed Pete Rose baseball, and Druthers was ultimately demoted after threatening to fire three people each hour in an effort to track it down. He’ll once again return to the character for the final season of “How I Met Your Mother,” presumably to torture Ted once again. Or, based on his last appearance, show Ted just how far he’s fallen in the years since he was last onscreen.

Meanwhile, “Breaking Bad” creator Vince Gilligan is moving on to a new show as well, after CBS decided to revive a decade-old abandoned project. In 2002, Gilligan developed the detective drama “Battle Creek” for CBS, but the network ultimately passed. Now that Gilligan is the proud owner of a best drama series Emmy, however, CBS is suddenly interested in reviving the project. Gilligan is set to serve as a writer and co-executive producer for “Battle Creek,” alongside “House” creator David Shore, who is expected to update the previously abandoned spec script.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Gilligan’s new drama “centers on two detectives with very different world views who are teamed up. Together, they must answer the question: is cynicism, guile and deception enough to clean up the semi-mean streets of Battle Creek, Michigan in the face of a complete lack of resources; or is the exact opposite true -- it takes naïveté, trust and a boatload of resources?”
