An interview with actress Naomi Watts to promote her new film “Diana” didn’t exactly go as planned for BBC radio host Simon Mayo, as the actress abruptly walked out in the middle of the chat. The interview began pleasantly enough as Mayo asked Watts questions about the movie, which is about the late British Princess Diana.

As the Daily Mirror pointed out, however, Watts appeared to become uncomfortable when Mayo asked her about speaking to friends of Diana in preparation for the role, as well as the filming of a scene at Kensington Palace, which is a royal residence.

Eight and one-half minutes into the interview, which was originally supposed to be 10 minutes long, Watts said she was being given the signal to wrap up, and she walked out. Afterward, Mayo reportedly tweeted the following: “A first for me ... as Naomi Watts walked out of an interview! She seemed a tad uncomfortable with the questions. Shame.”

Meanwhile, Entertainment One, a firm representing Watts, has banned any of its acts from speaking with Mayo, saying the BBC host “acted unprofessionally. ... After completing the interview, Simon Mayo tweeted that Naomi walked out on his interview. This was factually incorrect as she did not walk out, and Simon Mayo was not even in the same room whilst interviewing Naomi.”

According to the Daily Mirror, Watts was interviewed from Claridge’s hotel in London, while Mayo was at a BBC studio.

Mayo himself fired back at Entertainment One. “We were not asking any difficult questions, as the film is not about Diana’s death,” Mayo said. “We did not want to talk about Diana’s death ... but she obviously felt uncomfortable. As I was asking questions, Naomi turned to her publicist, whispered something in her ear, and she got up and left. We have now been told that the film company won’t let us interview any stars they have in their movies.” He added, “I have listened back to the tape of the interview, and I can see nothing wrong with it.”

“Diana,” which had its worldwide premiere in the U.K. on Sept. 5, has been slammed by critics.
