Who knew Daniel Radcliffe was a contender to play Christian Grey in the film adaption of “Fifty Shades of Grey”?

According to the former “Harry Potter” star, fans responded in uproar over news that “Sons of Anarchy” actor Charlie Hunnam had been cast as the sadistic billionaire businessman in the upcoming feature instead of the 24-year-British old native. “Literally had someone say to me for the first time today, 'The world's in uproar you're not playing Christian Grey.' And I'm like 'If this is uproar, it's inaudible,’” said Radcliffe during an interview with MTV at the Toronto International Film Festival Thursday.

Despite fans alleged desire to see the former boy wizard star in the film, Radcliffe said he was never interested in playing the coveted role. “I think there was approximately no people wanting me to play Christian Grey, including myself," he said, specifying the sexual nature of the storyline didn’t attract him. "I have to say, no offense to anybody, I'm sure they're going to do a great job on the movie, but it's not something that I think of would have been a good next step for me,” he added.

While Radcliffe claims he wasn’t interested in starring as the fictional, erotica character, he did share his interest in wooing “Roar” singer Katy Perry. “Mentally I am very close to Katy Perry, a lot," he said. “I've been in a room with her since and I couldn't say [anything]. I was across a room from her and I was like 'I can't.” This is the second time Radcliffe has discussed his affinity for Perry, first reportedly revealing his crush on the 28-year-old singer during a 2012 interview with MTV.

Hunnam famously won the coveted role of Christian Grey earlier this month when the author of the “Fifty Shades of Grey” trilogy, E.L. James, announced the leads of the upcoming film on social media. “The gorgeous and talented Charlie Hunnan will be Christian Grey," James said on Twitter, also announcing the actress set to play the stories female lead. “Hold on to your hats… I am delighted to let you know that the lovely Dakota Johnson has agreed to be our Anastasia in the film adaption of Fifty Shades of Grey,” she later added.

Radcliffe’s latest film horror fantasy film “Horns” was released last week starring the former child star as young man named Ig Perrish who awakes to find himself sprouting horns. The dramedy “The F Word,” also starring Radcliffe, is currently scheduled for a Feb. release. The British native most recently scored the role as Igor in a remake of the classic tale "Frankenstein" alongside James McAvoy (Victor Von Frankenstein) and Jessica Brown Findlay.
