According to a tweet by the official Sony PlayStation Twitter account, “Grand Theft Auto 5” (“GTA 5”) players who plan to acquire the game through the PlayStation Store on the PlayStation Network (PSN) will have to wait until 12:00 a.m. EDT on September 17 to download the game. This leaves digital purchasers stuck waiting to download the massive 36GB of “GTA 5” while the crowds that pre-ordered physical copies of the game at several retail stores including GameStop and Best Buy will have the game in hand and ready to play at the stroke of midnight.
Some confusion over whether or not digital purchasers could preload the game ensued after the tweet by the PlayStation Twitter account was sent out on Friday. Earlier on Friday, a tweet sent out originally by Rockstar Games, the developer and publisher of the “Grand Theft Auto” series of video games, said that US gamers that would be able to preload “GTA 5” on Monday, September 16 at 3 a.m., 21 hours before the game’s official release. Rockstar Games explained that their initial tweet was incorrect after several fans tweeted Rockstar Games, asking for clarification on the matter.
“Grand Theft Auto 5” will be available in stores and online on September 17 for the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 (PS3).
