Actress Alexis Bledel, a longtime leading fan favorite to star as Anastasia Grey in the film adaption of the series “Fifty Shades of Grey,” has been noticeably absent amid casting backlash. After reports surfaced this week that fans created a petition to get the films’ current stars booted from the series, another fan favorite, actor Matt Bomer, stepped in to pacify backlash, but Bledel has yet to comment.

While the 31-year-old actress hasn’t responded to fans desire to see her take on the role of Anastasia Grey, a character described as a sexually inexperienced college graduate, she has been spotted out in recent days. According to a report from the Daily Mail, Bledel was seen by photographers working in New York City on the set of the upcoming FOX series “Us & Them” on Thursday. Sporting a flowery dress, the actress appeared shocked to see photographers as she left her trailer, making no comment on the recent “Fifty Shades of Grey” reports.

Backlash regarding casting of the upcoming film began Monday after the series author, E.L. James, announced that actors Charlie Hunnam (“Sons of Anarchy”) and Dakota Johnson (“Ben and Kate”) would star as the films leads. The fan-created petition regarding the casting choices on the platform site Change.org requested that James instead feature Bledel and “White Collar” actor Matt Bomer.

“Matt Bomer is the perfect description of Christian Grey and Alexis Bledel is the perfect actress to represent Anastasia Steele and if they’re not, nobody will be,” reads the petition. “Remember that this has never been created with the intention of insulting Charlie and Dakota. We just want to be heard.” As of Friday morning, over 63,000 signatures had been received on the site.

On Thursday Bomer responded to the casting backlash and confirmed he was no longer a contender to appear in the highly-anticipated film. “I’m so grateful for the fans and touched. I’m looking forward to seeing the movie with Charlie and Dakota,” he said, also revealing his plans to take on some Christian Grey attributes in the latest season of his USA series, “White Collar.” We’re definitely embracing more of a bad boy version of Neal this year,” he said.

"Fifty Shades of Grey" is currently slated to premiere in theaters Aug. 1, 2014.
