The start to the 2013 NFL season has not exactly gone as planned for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They are one of the few 0-2 teams and there already appears to be some discontent in the locker-room.
Following their Week 2 loss to the New Orleans Saints, reports surfaced that Darrelle Revis was unhappy with Greg Schiano. According to the cornerback, he harbors no ill will towards the head coach.
"I just wanted to make sure we were on the same page," Revis said. "Those things in the paper do get out, rumors here and there. I just wanted to make sure. I wanted to talk to him personally, to say, 'Hey, just to let you know, I don't know if you know or if you believe it or not,' just to make sure he saw me.”
Tampa Bay traded for Revis in the offseason, hoping to sure up their secondary. The three-time All-Pro has helped limit the opposition’s scoring chances, but it hasn’t done much for their record. On Sunday, Revis and the Buccaneers will be tested against one of the best quarterbacks in the league.
Tom Brady and the New England Patriots will host Tampa at 1 p.m. ET. FOX will broadcast the game on TV, but fans can watch a live stream online with NFL Sunday Ticket Max.
For the past few years, the Patriots have been one of the most explosive offenses in football. That hasn’t been the case this year, after the team lost almost all of their offensive weapons from season ago. Wes Welker, Aaron Hernandez and Brandon Lloyd are all gone from a team that led the NFL in points and yards per game. Rob Gronkowski is still battling an injury and questionable for the game, while newly acquired Danny Amendola won’t return for a few weeks.
As a result, New England has scored just 36 points in two games. Julian Edelman is a wide receiver with just 714 receiving yards in four previous seasons. Now, Brady has been forced to make him his No.1 target.
The Buccaneers will have All-Pro Dashon Goldson available. The safety was suspended for an illegal hit on Darren Sproles, but the suspension was overturned.
On offense is where Tampa has the bulk of its issues. Josh Freeman seems to have reverted back to his 2011 form when he threw 22 interceptions. His 63.0 passer rating is the worst in the NFC, and his job could be in jeopardy to rookie Mike Glennon if he doesn’t improve soon.
The betting odds for the Patriots first two games had the reigning AFC East champs favored by double-digits. After not coming close to covering the line in either contest, the point spread has New England as seven-point favorites in this one.
