“Mad Men” star Jon Hamm will undergo an invasive throat surgery next week in an effort to remove a large polyp on his vocal cords.

Hamm, 42, will head to Boston for the surgery next week, hot off his appearance on Sunday’s Primetime Emmy Awards. His representative, Erica Gray, confirmed to USA Today and the NY Daily News that Hamm is “having a single polyp removed” and that it will be a “routine outpatient procedure.”

“Mad Men” co-star January Jones was reportedly discussing Hamm’s polyp at an Emmy party on Sunday night, telling an unnamed industry insider that Hamm’s voice had become raspier lately. When the “Mad Men” star allegedly began coughing up blood, he finally decided to schedule the operation, Life and Style reports.

Though Hamm was nominated for an Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series Emmy, he went home empty-handed on Sunday night, as did “Mad Men” itself, despite having been nominated for seven major awards. Still, Hamm capitated audiences all the same onstage, presenting several awards onstage and earning Internet adoration for his newly grown beard.
