A German rapper-turned-Islamist was wounded while fighting in Syria’s civil war, a group connected to Abu Talha al-Almani said Monday.
The former rapper, who went by the name Deso Dogg and was born Denis Mamadou Cuspert, was injured in an air strike from a helicopter, a group calling itself the People of Abraham announced on Facebook, according to AFP. Cuspert later converted to Islam and changed his name to Abu Talha al-Almani.
"Abu Talha al-Almani and several other brothers were injured, while several Muslim children were killed,” the group said in a statement, according to AFP. Al-Almani was hunkering down at a rebel fighter’s home when he was wounded.
Embattled Syrian President Bashar Assad’s government is at war with various rebel groups trying to take control of the Middle Eastern country. It’s unclear which group al-Almani was aligned with.
A YouTube video surfaced last month showing al-Almani as a jihadist. The video was titled, “Deso Dogg a German rapper converts to Islam, goes to Syria to fight against the unjust.
