Dehumidifier owners, you may want to unplug your devices.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Health Canada announced a recall for over two million dehumidifiers sold in the United States and 52,500 sold in Canada Thursday after specific products were found to have caused multiple fires, resulting in over $2 million in property damage.

According to a statement released by Gree USA Thursday, the manufacturers of Gree Electric Appliances, costumers are advised to immediately discontinue use of an estimated 2.2 million units now being considered faulty. According to the report the products, sold by 12 different brands since 2005 up until Aug. of this year, have been found to overheat, produce smoke and catch fire. “Consumers should stop using this product unless otherwise instructed,” said a statement from the Washington D.C. based company. “It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.”

According to a report from USA Today the Consumer Product Safety Commmission recalled the products after they were found to be linked to 46 fires, causing a subsequent $2.15 million in property damage. The CPSC claims that no injuries have been reported in connection with the recall.

The recall includes dehumidifiers sold by 12 separate companies including: Danby, De'Longhi, Fedders, Fellini, Frigidaire, Gree, Kenmore, Norpole, Premiere, Seabreeze, SoleusAir and SuperClima. Products included in the recall include select 20, 25, 30, 40, 45, 50, 65 and 70-pint dehumidifiers. Due to the large number of products being recalled, customers can enter their product brand name, model number and date code into Gree’s website to decipher which dehumidifiers are included in the recall.“The brand name and the pint capacity are printed on the front of the dehumidifier. The model number and date code are printed on a sticker on the back, front or side of the unit,” said a press release from Gree.

Customers affected by the recall can request a refund by contacting Gree at: (866-853-2802) from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. ET on Saturdays. A refund can also be requested through the company’s website.
