The girlfriend of Oklahoma City Thunder guard DeAndre Liggins has accused the basketball player of punching her and dropping an Xbox on her head during a domestic abuse incident, according to a police affidavit.
Jasmine Horton, Liggins’ alleged girlfriend, reportedly told police that the Thunder player knocked her to the floor and then punched her in the head when she fell, according to a probable cause affidavit obtained by The Oklahoman. The alleged domestic abuse incident took place in front of the couple’s 2-year-old son.
Horton claims that she eventually managed to lock herself in her bedroom, but Liggins broke through the door, the affidavit says. Next, Liggins allegedly threw her to the ground, stomped on her, and dropped an Xbox on her head, according to the police document.
Liggins’ girlfriend reportedly suffered several injuries in the domestic abuse incident, including scratches, bruising, and unspecified injuries to her arms and fingers, The Oklahoman reports. The 25-year-old basketball player was arrested Saturday and charged with domestic assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and domestic abuse in the presence of a minor. He was later released on $8,000 bail.
Thunder general manager Sam Presti addressed Liggins’ domestic violence arrest in a statement. “We reiterate the serious nature of this issue. We’re awaiting further information and will have no further comment at this time.” Presti declined to discuss how the arrest might affect Liggins’ status on the team.
Liggins entered the NBA in 2011 as a second round draft pick for the Orlando Magic. He spent a year in Orlando before signing with the Thunder in 2012 as a free agent. Liggins averaged 1.5 points and 1.4 rebounds per game last season.
