The St. Louis Rams would certainly like to forget the last time they played the Dallas Cowboys. In Week 7 of the 2011 season, “America’s Team” won in dominant fashion, picking up a 34-7 victory.
Now, the two teams are set to meet again. The Rams will visit the Cowboys for the first time in two years in their Week 3 matchup.
St. Louis hit a low in that loss to Dallas. It marked their sixth straight loss to open a season that saw them end up at 2-14, tied for the worst record in the NFL. However, the team has come a long way since then. With a healthy Sam Bradford at the helm, the Rams are coming of a season in which they were one win away from sporting a .500 record. They enter Sunday’s contest at 1-1 with realistic hopes of making the playoffs.
Dallas also comes into Week 3 at 1-1. They are coming off a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, but every team in the NFC East failed to win their second game.
The Cowboys hope DeMarco Murray can have a repeat performance from his one and only meeting with the Rams. He set a franchise record that day, rushing for 253 yards on 25 attempts. The third-round pick from Oklahoma, though, hasn’t been the same since his rookie season. He missed six games in 2012 and the Cowboys rushed for the fewest amount of yards in the team’s history. Through two games in 2013, Murray only has 111 rushing yards on 3.5 yards per carry.
"You've got to run the ball better, you've got to score when you're (in the red zone). You've got to stop people," Tony Romo said. "Every team's doing the same thing after this week that lost, and we're going to be included in that."
Through two games, Romo has done what he always does. He’s put up some of the best statistics, leading the NFL with a 72.5 completion percentage, and he’s only thrown one interception.
Bradford has also been without a strong running game with the Rams. The team lost veteran Stephen Jackson in the offseason, who signed with the Atlanta Falcons after eight-straight 1,000-yard seasons with St. Louis. Daryl Richardson has taken over the starting role, but he’s been unable to find his groove. The second-year man has yet to break 100 yards on the season.
