Rarely do those of us who spend the week shackled to a cubicle get the chance to experience the great outdoors. Fortunately, there are guys like Dave Anderson out there who can do it for us -- and share really cool videos of the amazing things they spot. Anderson, who runs a whale-watching charter business out of Dana Point, Calif., recently uploaded footage of a massive dolphin “stampede” and migrating gray whales that he captured with the use of a camera-equipped drone.

The stunning birds-eye view of the glistening waters off the southern California coast demonstrates what can happen when nature and technology come together. Anderson’s video shows a “mega-pod” of hundreds of common dolphins torpedoing through the water and footage of three gray whales. He also captured a family of Humpback whales off of Maui.

"This is the most beautiful and compelling five minute video I have ever put together,” Anderson said in a post on his company’s Facebook page. “I learned so much about these whales and dolphins from this drone footage that it feels like I have entered a new dimension!”

He added: “Drones are going to change how we view the animal world. Wow!"

According to Anderson’s Facebook post, he launched the drone, a DJI Phantom 2, from a small inflatable boat six miles from shore. The whale watcher and apparent hobbyist said he lost one drone after it collided with a radio antenna on the 14-foot boat from which he was filming and fell into the water, a blunder that cost him $1,700.

"I get so nervous every flight over the water now, after the accident, my hands start shaking," Anderson said. "My wife says no more drones if I lose this one. But she said that before I lost the other one. Now that she's seen what it can do, I think she's just as hooked as I am.”
