“Parks and Recreation” star Aziz Ansari will premier his latest standup special “Buried Alive” exclusively on Netflix this fall.

Speaking to the New York Times, Ansari explained that Netflix “seems like it’s the closest delivery service of media we have that actually matches up to our preferences and expectations,” adding that “It’s so convenient, you don’t even think about the fact that you’re paying for it.”

Ansari says that his past two specials, “Intimate Moments for a Sensual Evening” and “Dangerously Delicious,” have been so popular with fans on Netflix that it was a no-brainer to partner with the streaming service for his latest release. “Buried Alive,” which was filmed in Philadelphia during a nationwide tour of the same name, is set to debut on Nov. 1.

“It’s an interesting time for someone to be releasing content,” Ansari continued. “No one’s quite figured out things. You can do all types of things. At this moment, it really seems like Netflix is the way to go.”

“Buried Alive” is all part of a larger push by Netflix to dominate the streaming market with high-profile exclusive content. Back in January, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings told GQ, "The goal is to become HBO faster than HBO can become us,” and Hastings has certainly stuck to his word. In the past seven months, Netflix has premiered critically acclaimed shows such as “House of Cards,” “Orange is the New Black,” and a new season of the canceled cult-classic “Arrested Development.”

Ansari’s new special is not the streaming service’s first foray into standup comedy specials, either. In June, Netflix released John Hodgeman’s “Ragnarok” and just last week, the site premiered Mike Birbiglia’s “My Girlfriend’s Boyfriend.” “Buried Alive,” however, will be a much higher-profile affair, one that Netflix hopes will incentivize other comedians to work with the service.

“We’ve been working to make Netflix a great home for comedians to do their best work and to support their live performance careers, and having Aziz debut his new show with us is a validation of that strategy,” Ted Sarandos, the chief content officer for Netflix, told the Times.

Ansari will also release “Buried Alive” on his website for a $5 download in May. Previously, Ansari adopted a similar tactic for his last standup special, “Dangerously Delicious.”
